Gerard's POV
I could hear rain pelting the windows of the small history classroom as the teacher wrote notes on the board for the class to copy. I sighed, the sound of rain always made me want to fall asleep, and staying awake in Mrs.Jackson's class is already a task on a sunny day.
My best friend Frank turned to look at me from his seat to my left when he heard my exasperated expression. He quietly whispers, "You awake over there?" I laugh quietly and roll my eyes, "Barely."
"Mr.Way, Mr.Iero, if there's something needing to be discussed between the two of you, do it after my class." A few students turn to look at us with small smirks.
As Frank opens his mouth to retort, the announcement bell rings loudly. Everyone looks up to the ceiling, expecting to hear something mundane such as a bus change or a teacher being needed in the office.
"All students & faculty are dismissed at this time due to unsafe weather conditions expected within the next hour."
People begin talking excitedly and packing their things. I can barely hear the person speaking over the announcement explain that bus riders will still be offered transport home on their regular bus.
I drive myself, Frank, and my brother Mikey to school everyday, so the information didn't seem useful to me.
"Sweet," Frank says nudging me as I swipe my binder off of my desk and put it in my bag.
Once I see that Frank has put all of his things away as well, I stand from my desk and make my way out of the room.
I catch Frank shooting Mrs.Jackson an annoyed look as he passes her following me.
The hallways are filled with an unusual energy, everyone's happy to get out of this hell hole early.
"The weather must be getting ready to really show out." Frank comments as we walk in the direction of Mikey's locker.
"I know, it's been all over the news. It's going to be pretty intense." I say sighing.
We approach Mikey's locker where he's waiting for us with his usual blank expression."The powers definitely going to go out at our place." Mikey says to me and Frank as he pushes off of his locker and joins us in the stream of kids heading for the exit to the student parking lot.
It's true. The apartment that me and Mikey share with our Aunt Rainey loses power every time it rains.
I can't imagine how long it's going to be out with such a severe storm heading our way. It's coming from a warm front pushing in from the south.
"We need to go get some candles and things like that so we're prepared," I state as the exit comes into view.
"The announcer said that the weathers expected to kick off within the next hour. Do you guys really want to get caught in it?" Frank asks as he shrugs his book bag closer to his side after a taller guy nearly nudged it off of him whilst passing by.
"He's got a point," Mikey states as we reach the exit.
Rain is pouring down harshly outside, and students run to their cars. Splashing through puddles, some laughing, some shouting in annoyance, others walking at a normal pace as if it's an average day.
I sigh and pull my jacket zipper up a little tighter as we step out of the building.
I am almost instantly drenched. Me, Mikey, and Frank walk in the same paced silence. Not quick enough to be considered a run, but a little more than a walk.
We didn't speak, we communicated in agitated grunts as the cold drops poured down on us.
Once we reached my car I fumbled with the keys for a few minutes. They dropped from my hands into a puddle right at my feet, "Damn it Gee!" Frank says laughing yet still sounding a little annoyed.
I smile fondly, hearing him call me Gee makes my heart do flips for some reason.
I push away the feeling as quickly as it came. I tell myself I can't think about Frank like that, he's my best friend.
I bent down to pull my keys from the murky puddle, my hair sending water dripping down my face.
I'm completely soaked now aside from the things in my bag. I finally get the door open and hop inside the car.
I close my door quickly, reaching over to manually unlock two of the other doors for my best friend and little brother.
As Frank got into the car and shut his door, he let out a sigh of annoyance and relief.
His wet hair laying straight against his head, framing his face beautifully as he runs a hand over his face to wipe away some of the rain.
He makes eye contact with me and my stomach locks.
I quickly turn back ahead and sigh. Frank just caught me staring at him.
I can't help it.
I really can't.
It bothers me, and I try my best to ignore it but I really like Frank. Not a normal kind of best friend liking, more like a push him up against the wall and kiss him kind of liking.
I know it's not right.
Frank's been my best friend for five years, and I feel like a complete creep for looking at him the way I do.
Mikey waves a hand in my face, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Earth to Gerard, we're sitting in the parking lot while a severe storm rolls into town."
I clear my throat and run a hand through my soaked hair.
"S-sorry, I'm just super tired. You know what rain does to me." I said brushing off the fact that I had just completely spaced out feeling guilty about my filthy little crush on Frank.
"We still have to get Frank home and then go back to the apartment and try to find some candles and other storm supplies. You know the powers going to go out the second it gets bad, if it's not already out now."
I groan as I shakily start the car and begin to back up out of my parking space. Cautiously watching for any students who may be trying to walk by.
"I can't stand sitting in the dark through bad weather." I muttered as I maneuvered through student traffic towards the parking lot exit.
"You guys could always come to my place."
