I gasp loudly and I grab the nearest thing around me. I sit up and look around at my surroundings.
"What in the.." I trail off when the brightness of everything wore off.
I squint to see the white interiors of a room in Shuri's lab. My heavy breathing and racing heart beat are triggering the alarms. I notice that I still have a white knuckle grip on the rails of my bed.
I look up when the door opens to see Shuri. She yelps out in what I can assume is fear.
"Shuri?" I say in a low, raspy voice.
"Oh my God, you're awake!" She says.
"Thank God! I'm going to alert T'Challa." She adds before turning to leave the room.
"Shuri, wait.. Shuri!" I call after her.
She stops in her tracks and looks at me.
"W.. what happened? Why am I in your lab?" I ask.
"Do you not remember?.. what year is it?" She asks as she takes a seat.
"It's still 2015 right?" I say.
"No.. Samantha it's 2018.. you've been in a coma for three years." She explains.
I furrow my eyebrows as I stare down at my lap. I shake my head and say:
"No.. that's impossible."
"I... should be dead.. I felt T'Challa's blade pierce my heart." I add.
"Erik brought you to my lab as soon as you fell unconscious. I was able to heal you in under an hour... but there was nothing I could do about your subconscious.." She explains.
"Oh my god, Erik. Where is he right now?" I ask.
"He's.." She trails off and my eyes snap up to meet hers.
"Shuri.. where's Erik?" I ask.
"He's in jail." She says.
"What?!"
I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and take off my blanket.
"You really shouldn't get out of bed... you haven't been on your feet in three years. Your muscles and bones have been out of function that same duration. It is unsafe for you to be walking." She warns.
"I don't care if I die; I'll do it if that means that I can see Erik one last time." I say.
"I'm going," I add.
I stand up from the bed and use the edge to stabilize myself. As soon as I take a single step, my knee cracks.
"Damn it," I say in pain.
"Sammie, please don't do this so soon." Shuri pleads.
"I'll make you a deal.. if I get to see Erik, then I will let you run whatever tests that you need." I negotiate.
She huffs before she says:
"At least let me walk you to his cell."
She approaches me and wraps her arms around my waist as she helps me walk out of the room. We take the elevator to the lower levels and it finally came to a halt. The scent of wet earth rushing against my face as I step onto the white tiled floor in an all white room. Two Doras stood outside of the door and one of them say:
"Samantha, welcome back."
"Thanks.." I say.
"Am I.. allowed to see him?" I add.
"I'm afraid we can't do that... He was been aggressive and violent since you've been in the coma. He initially promise that he would cooperate with anything that King T'Challa asked, but when he heard that you went into a coma.. he lost it, and King T'Challa was forced to put him in here." One of them explains.
