She somehow knew it was him. His eyes following her every move, every minute of her day, everywhere ...

As if that's even possible, she thought as a smile crept up her lips. She shook her head absentmindedly, wondering why her thoughts were meandering.

She was after all the Princess, up there in her gilded cage, protected - a protector too; while he was just a simple Moddhu. Or was he? A Moddhu? Simple enough?

She smiled again, the answers clear in her mind at least. He was neither a Moddhu, nor simple. He possessed all the necessary wiles and weapons to pursue his heart. To pursue any woman. To pursue Her. Though he seemed to be extremely guileless and harmless.

She got up from the silk covered settee and walked towards the wall-length mirror, her eyes focused on her profile therein. She was almost startled to see the glow there, the feverish anticipation; the pink heat from her cheeks suffusing down her throat and beyond ...

The silk curtains rustled and she turned back a bit startled; her eyes searching the entire span of the room, the doorway, as her hand reached for the sharp dagger hidden beneath the waistband of her silk skirt. She was now fully alert as her eyes systematically checked every nook and corner of her room. Only to be disappointed to find nobody there.

Disappointment? Devsena wondered, as she slipped the dagger back to it's resting place, the sheath cool against the warm skin of her stomach. Why am I disappointed? Shouldn't I be relieved? What was I expecting? Who was I expecting? the train of questions ran through her mind. Was I expecting him to be around, now that I was all alone?

She walked back to the mirror and really looked at herself, searching for the firebrand Princess she knew only too well. Instead she found a slightly altered version of herself, a romantic version of herself- and she realized that she liked it. He intrigued her like no one else, and Devsena found herself thinking more and more about him nowadays. There was some latest charm and nobility about him that had won her heart over, though she was not going to let it surrender, without a fight. And then she blushed deeper, mighty glad that girls were not around. They would have otherwise teased her mercilessly, and relentlessly.

And chattered around that Princess Devsena was in love, finally ...

The Warrior Princess has finally stepped down from her high pedestal to bless the ground and walk right into a stranger's heart. And that too, a Moddhu's.

But was she? Devsena thought as she adjusted her bangles. In love that is? Maybe it was just plain infatuation? ... though that glint in his eyes tempted her, tormented her. The slight smile on his lips that she managed to catch off-guard most of the times managed to woo her ... always.

She imagined that he would be a good kisser ... her cheeks burned in the mirror, and she felt a warmth seep through her soul. The other night she had found herself in a dream, lost in a beautiful meadow filled with acres and acres of flowers, a crystal clear lake flocked by swans ... and there he had been. Majestic, regal, quiet, his eyes slightly disobedient ... as he watched her float in the lake of dreams.
