Nier: Automata ~ 1 - Prologue ~

Year 11945. Humanity was close to extinction, due to the appearance of the aliens from outer space, and their creations, the machines.

The remaining remnants of humanity, faced with the threat of their extinction, were sent to the moon in order to survive.

In response to the aliens' machines, humanity built the androids to combat the machine presence, so that one day they would return back home.

In the Bunker, which acts as the YoRHa headquarters, which orbits around the earth. They'd detected a sudden mass increase of life within a secluded location.

The thing was that this was not sensed in their scouters, until now.

"Unit 2B and Unit 9S, you both shall investigate the sudden appearance of life signals. Is that understood?" commanded the stoic YoRHa commander to the screen, which displayed 2B and 9S.

"Understood." 2B, the combat unit, female android replied, before she turned off the broadcast.

"Did you hear that. 2B?" Said the smaller, and more hyperactive male android, 9S.

"Command wants us to investigate the strange appearances of life."

"Yes, they think they've found some of humanity on the planet right now!"

"Pod would have noticed them, 9S."

"That's the thing 2B. Command said the life signals just... appeared!"

"That's impossible. Life does not appear out of nowhere."

9S shrugged. "It's what command has told us."

"They were all machines, weren't they?"

"Probably, but I doubt this time it'll be just machines like last time." 9S was definitely in a cheery mood, and it was definitely because of the possibility of meeting a human for the first time.

2B sighed, knowing 9S, once his curiosity was peaked, he would do anything to find out the answer. "Pod. Scan for life signals." 2B commanded her pod, Pod 042.

"Affirmative. Life signals detected."

"Where are they located?"

"Life signals are located pass the dessert. Proposal. Unit 2B and Unit 9S should investigate locations of life signals."

"That's what we're ordered to do anyway. Let's go 2B!"

The two androids, along with their Pods, begun sand-surfing through the desert. Further then they'd ever gone before. Until the point where mirages had begun to plague their visions, how were they even able to suffer from mirages, despite them being androids was a question that could not be answered.

Soon, the androids and pods had arrived at their destination.

A land that was surrounded by the great walls.

Strangely enough, sand was prevented from entering.

Almost as if it were magic.

Runes formed on the walls. And according to Pod 152, 9S' pod. It reads 'Farron'.

"Pod, this the location?"

"Affirmative. Hypothesis. This location is a city of humans."

"A city of humans? Aren't they all in the moon?"

"Hypothesis. This city was not naturally formed. Instead, it was teleported."

"Command did send us to investigate this after all."

"Command had sent Unit 2B and 9S to investigate. Hypothesis. Units 2B and 9S should scour through city."

9S was ecstatic. This was his first time to meeting the humans that were not on the moon. "2B! Let's go!" And so 9S went on ahead, into this teleporting land called Farron.

"9S! Don't rush ahead!" 2B followed 9S behind shortly.
