Word Count: 778
Genre: Sad fluff-ish
Pairing: Jeremiah Valeska (15) x Sapphire James (14 // My OC)
Warnings: Curse words, smoking, mentions of abuse/blood
A/N: So, in the show, it's implied Jeremiah left a few days after his tenth birthday but I wanted to twist it up a bit and imply since Sapph (pronounced Saff) is there she was able to keep Jerome from "killing" Miah as they supposedly feared would happen. Also, if you want, you can change it from Sapphire/Sapph to your name/nickname.
Prompt: Jeremiah talks to Sapphire about leaving Haly's Circus and catches her picking up a bad habit.

"Sapphire?"

Jeremiah stepped into the Valeska trailer after looking for her everywhere. Looking around, he looked at the couch. Sapphire sat on the couch with her twin sleeping on her lap. A bruise and cut rested on her cheek. His heart sunk when he realized it was his mother's work.

"Sapph..." Jeremiah saw his twin's face beat up and a mix of fresh and dry blood painted his pale face when he walked over to her. Also their mother's work.

"Miah," Sapphire pushed her blue hair out of her face, smoke falling from her mouth.

"When did you start smoking?" Jeremiah frowned.

"After Jerome had to hold me back from beating your mother's ass," Sapphire touched the cut and saw the blood on her fingers, "Fuck. I don't even care if that hurt, Miah. You're mother's horrible."

"She hit you?" He kneeled in front of her.

"She almost killed Jerome!" Sapphire raised her voice but stopped as Jerome shifted.

"Sapph?" Jerome mumbled.

"Go to sleep, love," Sapphire hid the cigarette, stroking his hair as his eyes closed again.

Jealousy burned in Jeremiah's chest and he turned away from the scene. Sapphire unraveled his long arms from around her and carefully got up. She wiped a tear that slipped from her eye and walked outside.

Jeremiah, of course, followed her out, "You're crying... Why?"

"I should have gotten in the way," A sob escaped her as she sat down on the steps, "He shouldn't be this fucked up, you know? I shouldn't have let this happen."

"I don't understand why you're crying over that--" Sapphire's growl cut him off.

Her striking blue eyes peered up at him, "Don't. You. Dare. I don't care about your 'differences.'"

Silence took over them as they stared at each other. His gaze had been filled with regret and sadness while hers had been filled with anger and also sadness. It hurt to see that. Jeremiah hated when she cried.

"Would you cry over me?" Jeremiah kneeled in front of her, wiping her tears carefully.

"It depends... What would be the situation?" Sapphire's voice wobbled.

"I'm leaving Haly's Circus," Jeremiah watched her pull out and light up another cancer stick.

"I would never stop crying if you left," Sapphire chuckled, looking at his lips curve down.

Jeremiah drew in a shaky breath as she took a drag from the cigarette, "You're not crying though."

"You're not leaving though," Sapphire retorted, blowing the smoke upwards and away from him.

"I am, Sapphire," Jeremiah watched everything stop.

Her eyes and face drained of emotion, her heart skipping a beat. Sapphire felt her eyes burn as she searched his face for some kind of sign to say it was just a dreadful joke. Nothing about him said it was a joke. He was serious.

"Don't... Please?" Sapphire's eyes teared up and the tears came pouring as she stood up.

Jeremiah stood, feeling his heart squeeze from the pain he was causing her, "I have to."

"Fuck you," Sapphire started repeating the words, sobbing harder as she did.

Jeremiah held her close to keep her from falling, "Sapphire, I'm so sorry."

"No. No! If you were sorry, you wouldn't be doing this to us," Sapphire stepped back, stepping out of his arms.

"Us? Who's us?" Jeremiah laughed shortly, venom filling his words, "I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I'd leave him dead in a ditch if I could."

"Fuck you," Sapphire's tears stopped, venom filling her words as well.

"Right," Jeremiah shook his head, running a hand through his hair, "I guess we're done here."

"I..." Sapphire looked at him, softness filling her face, "I love you..."

"I love you too," Jeremiah's voice never faltered from the anger, "You need to get away from here. Away from him."

Sapphire's mouth opened like she would say something, but nothing came out. Jeremiah stepped forward and kissed her forehead for a minute before walking off. Sapphire smoked the rest of her cigarettes when Jerome stepped outside.

"Sapph? Why are you smoking?" Jerome stepped out, sitting next to her, "You've been crying?"

"Jerome." She rasped, her throat sore from the crying and smoke.

"What, babycakes?" He made her look at him.

"Don't ever leave me. Please," Sapphire put it out with the bottom of her shoe.

"I won't. I promise," Jerome kissed her head, pulling her close.

Jerome looked around. He could have sworn he watched his twin turn away and walk into the darkness. Pain burned his heart as he stroked her knuckles slowly. His face was still bloody from an hour earlier's chaos.

"We should get you cleaned up," Sapphire murmured.

"Later," He replied, kissing her head.
