Her Purpose

Cassandra made a smooth stroke with her sword, feeling and reveling in each lean muscle that have grown from years of training and work. She didn't quite know what she was training for, but something told her she should, that it was important. Above all, she just wanted to be prepared. Neither did she want to be seen as some fragile little girl, looked down upon by others because she was an orphan. She detested those looks of pity. Now, she had somewhat of a name for herself, since the Challenge of the Brave. Although she had come in second, Rapunzel did earn it, it was her own fault for not paying attention to where her foot landed, even if it wasn't fully outside the dead man's circle. It was still the dead man's circle and she would've been dead had it been a real situation. She should know better.

She quickly sliced multiple arcs after that thought, smoothly gliding into another stroke, adding some kicks, a spin, and a punch.

She would've died because of that mistake, which is why she practices everyday dutifully. Mistakes can't happen. Especially when it comes to fighting for Rapunzel, her future Queen, and friend.

It was still an odd concept, this friend business. She hadn't had friends before. She never got along well with others her age, they chose gossiping and shopping, and Cassandra chose combat training. Before, instead of meaningless things like 'friendship', she had 'connections' for getting information or materials she wanted.

It wasn't so meaningless anymore, Cassandra thought, smiling softly. Not when Rapunzel was her friend. The girl had this amazing ability to befriend people, even people like herself, when at first, she didn't even like Raps that much, but after all the things she did and her sincerity in helping, she had to admit Raps grew on her. Like a poisonous mushroom... because it was dangerous to care about a person this much. She even had a personal nickname for her! If only her boyfriend, Eugene, didn't hang around her so much. He could drown in the sea for all she cared. The idiot.

There was also Varian, he was a good kid. Emphasis on was. He has dangerous issues and although she felt bad for what happened to his father, she didn't believe there was anything anyone could do... something he won't accept and that put Raps in danger.

The only other she really cared about was the one who took her in.
In a moment of weakness, she had told Eugene she lost her parents long ago and had been taken in by the captain of the guard. She would always be eternally grateful to the captain, who really felt like her dad and she, his daughter. They always said goodbye before he left on an assignment, who knew what could happen? With Raps though, dying or getting hurt shouldn't even be a remote possibility, she was the princess after all, but Raps sure made it difficult to protect her - the way she is always running off to fix a problem of some sort, but Cassandra couldn't take that away from her. She knew what it felt like to feel useless, so until Cassandra couldn't go on anymore, she would continue to train and fight for her princesss.
