Chapter 3 : Sticky

It's lunch break and I walked out before Zach and rushed to my locker. Students swung their classroom doors and quickly filled the hallways. I placed my books into my locker, slammed it shut, turned around. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I couldn't believe my first day was already going so well.

I felt a cold, smooth hand intertwine into mine. The smell of fresh mint gum tickled my nostrils.

"Hey babe..." I woke from the little meditation I was doing. I gave Zach a little stare.

"Oops, I mean... Ash, um.. you alright?"

"Yeah. I just couldn't believe I've made it this far with so many changes.. Well, we shall get to lunch before it's too late."

Zoey and Leo came walking to us.

"Hey lovebirds! Already official? Haha... anyways, we were wondering if we could all sit for lunch together..."

I looked over at Zach and back to Zoey then Leo. Zach looked at me like I was supposed to say something. To be honest, I was waiting for him to say something.

"Yes!" We both happily accepted.

Leo and Zach were good friends even before they met me and Zoey. Leo and Zach are both on the school's basketball and football. Basically, the two hottest jocks in school were with us!

In the cafeteria, the wide spread hall with bright lights and cheerful crowd sat at tables. We got our food in trays when a group of jocks called out Zach and Leo.

"Ash, come on."

The jocks including my obnoxious brother moved away for us to sit. Adam seemed to give me weird looks but then looked at Zach with a smirk. I guess he knew Zach liked me... possibly... wait! Did he know I liked Zach? Oh my god.

I stared at my tray of food before I reached out for my cup of coffee. I took a sip and tore my Cinnamon & Sugar pretzel. The laughter of the jocks about a stupid joke my brother had to make. He's been telling me all his lame jokes. They are ridiculous, they make no sense at all. I don't get why his friends find it funny at all.

"What do you call a sheep with no head and legs?"

"What, Adam? Tell us."

"A cloud. Hahahahhahahh"

A burst of laughter filled our table. I rolled my eyes. I stuffed my mouth with large chunks of the delicious pretzel.

"Oh hey loser, what are you doing at the jock table?" Jessica chuckled.

Hold up, who's Jessica? Well, the total jerk ass in my school. She can be annoying and imagine me handling her everyday except Saturdays and Sundays sometimes. She and her "Mean Girls" crew stood behind me. I spun around, glared at her and turned back. The jocks stared at Jessica and me. Zoey told Jessica to leave but that didn't seem to work.

"Loser, why are you so scared to face me? Weak. Haha"

I tried ignoring her. Oh, that didn't last long. She pour her cold fizzy drink all over me. I was drenched from head to toe. That's it. I couldn't take it, the fact I'm covered in a fizzy drink, all sticky. I grabbed my bag and walked out of the cafeteria. I ran towards the girls restroom as tears fell down my cheeks. The drink drying up and leaving me sticky and hopeless. Zoey ran into the restroom looking for me.

"Ash! Ashhh!! Ashley! Where are you?"

"Leave me alone!" I shouted as I sobbed.

I slowly opened the stall door and wiped my tears. Zoey hugged me. Zach and Leo were waiting outside for me.

"Here's some wipes... clean up"

I wiped myself and freshened up, grabbed my bag and exited the door. Zach held me and asked if I was okay. He also said he handled it with Jessica. Adam ran towards us.

"Do you wanna go home? I'll call mom." Adam told me.

"No thanks, I don't want to miss out on lessons."

We headed to our classes. Zach had Chemistry with me so he followed me. I was feeling a little cold. Shivering, I felt a warm coat over me. It was Zach's jacket! It definitely smelled like him.

School ended, I walked out, told Zach that I'll return his jacket tomorrow after I've washed it. I informed him that my mom is picking me up today because my dad is coming back for proper dinner after so long. Dad has been busy with his work for weeks and weeks. Finally he's coming back to have dinner with us. I've missed the fun we had everyday. But of course, I have to complete my homework and projects before dad makes it back. I mean we see dad every morning but we never really spent time with him. I don't want to miss family time. Who does?

*Honk*

Mom's here! Yay! More time to study! I turned around, looking for Adam.

"Adam! Mom's here!"

*No answer*

"Hey! Mommy's boy! We got to go!!!" I screamed.

Adam and his friends heard. His friends laughed 'til their heart's content. Adam's cheek turned red and tried to shut his friends up. I giggled and ran to the car. Zach looked at me, winked and wished me goodbye. I smiled, replied with see you tomorrow. I got in the front seat, next to mom while waiting for Adam. He got in the back seat and mom drove off.

"Ooo honey! Who's that boy who wished you goodbye?"

"Oh that's Zach..." I whispered.

"He is Ashley's new boyfriend!"

"No!"

"Oh yes he is! Stop lying!"

Mom smiled. She saw the jacket I had on. On the way back, I told her about Jessica and the drink. She instructed me to have a shower then do my homework. I agreed as she drove onto the driveway.

I had my shower and got ready to study. I got my homework, completed them just in time.

The doorbell rang and I ran down the stairs. I swung the door open, before Adam came down.

"Dad!!! I love you!"

"Oh sweetie! I love you too! Now, where's your brother?"

"Here!"

They both hugged for quite a while. We went to the kitchen where the fresh aroma of the roasted chicken mom had just made. On the table, a huge bowl of salad and plates were laid.  We settled down for dinner. After the main meal, mom had some cake left in the fridge which she served for desert.

Family time! All of us sat in the living room, played games and indeed watched some telly! We had so much fun until it was time for bed. We had school tomorrow so we hugged mom and dad. I brushed my teeth and fell asleep immediately. I was so tired.
