Keith let out a sigh as his phone vibrated against his nightstand, the familiar sound of his alarm echoing around the room. He sat upright, groaning. Grabbing his phone, he checked the time. 7:00 AM. Hopping out of bed, he picked out his daily clothes. A loose black t-shirt with black skinny jeans and navy blue Airwalks. After he got dressed, did his hair and teeth, and grabbed his bag, he walked downstairs to see his foster mom making Eggo's. Keith wrinkled his nose in disgust. He despised Eggo's.
"Keith," she turned to him with an Eggo in her hand. "Eat."
"I don't like Eggo's," Keith grumbled, turning away. She said nothing else. Keith walked towards the front door and walked out, deciding to walk to school today. He was due for exercise anyway.
The cold, morning air bit him as he stepped outside. Shivering, he stepped back into the house, setting his bag down and putting on his black hoodie. Now he was ready to leave. He swung his backpack over his shoulders and then left the house, clicking the door shut quietly after him. The sidewalks were covered in a thin layer of ice, crunching under Keith's shoes as he walked. The highschool was only about a third of a mile from his house, which was nothing to Keith. His breath fogged in front of him as he walked, his hands freezing.
"Why is it so fucking cold," he grumbled, bad-tempered. Almost tripping over a stray rock, he felt a jolt of shock, nearly falling on his face. "What the fuck, nature." He growled deep in his throat and kept walking.
About halfway through his walk, a dog's abrupt barking cut through Keith's thoughts. Dazed, he spotted a German Shepherd mix bounding up to him, snarling. Keith backed up, surprised. "Shit," he whispered as the dog came closer. If it was aggressive, which it looked to be, Keith was fucked, as he had nothing to defend himself with. He spun around as the dog got closer to him and ran. He could feel his shoes slipping on the ice, but he ignored it. If he was having trouble running, then the dog would too.
Looking behind him, he heard a feminine voice yell, "Bailey!"
A tan-skinned girl with long, blonde hair was chasing after the dog. She ran up and grabbed the dog's collar, pulling it back and yelling something in a language that Keith couldn't identify. She finally looked up at Keith. "I am so sorry. I got her a few days ago and she doesn't know any better... heh.." Then she squinted. "Wait...you're Keith Kraine, right?"
Keith blinked. "Kogane," he corrected.
"Oh, alright. Sorry. But you hang out with Takashi, right?"
"Yes."
"Awesome! I love Takashi, he's a great guy. I'm the lead singer in his band." She gave off a cheery smile which made Keith feel uncomfortable.
"I know. You're Allura."
"Correct!" She pulled out her phone and checked the time. "School will be starting in half an hour. Can I walk with you?"
Keith hesitated. Normally people stayed away from him. "..I guess..." he mumbled.
"Awesome, thanks!"
After a while of walking in silence, Allura decided to speak again.
"What grade are you in, Keith?"
"11th," he replied flatly.
"Ah, I'm a senior. So... tell me about yourself, Mr. Kogane."
Keith hesitated again. He wasn't used to being talked to in such a friendly manner by people other than Takashi. Keith was that one kid who would sit in a dark and shady corner listening to MCR while kids talked shit about him. "Well, I'm a foster kid. I'm the only kid in the home as of now, but I don't mind it."
