Keith was pissed. It was 5th period and he was already itching to get out of school.
Why?
Lance-fucking-McClain.
Keith was in math class sitting peacefully at his desk which was located in the second to last row. Lance was sitting behind him. The teacher had handed out a quiz on pre-calculus and Keith was doing his work when Lance suddenly whispered in his ear for a pencil.
Keith, annoyed, pulled out a pencil and handed it to the boy. Lance had scoffed.
"A bendy pencil? That's gay, Keith."
Keith growled to himself, but decided not to reply.
Not even five minutes later, he felt tapping on his arm. Keith twisted around to glare at Lance.
"Do you think you could give me a different pencil?"
Keith narrowed his eyes before taking back the bendy pencil and pulling out a regular black one.
"Gracias, Amigo," Lance smirked as he grabbed the pencil.
"I'm not your 'Amigo'," Keith hissed before turning back around, attempting to get more work done. He was at problem 14 and had six more to go before he felt tapping at his arm once again. "What the fuck do you want?" he snapped, turning around to see the teacher.
"Excuse me?" she scoffed.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were Lance."
"Bad language is not condoned in my class, especially to other students. After this class, you will be going to lunch detention." Then she walked to her desk.
"Oops..." Keith heard Lance snicker.
"If you don't shut up I will beat your fucking face in." Keith turned his head to send a piercing glare at the Cuban boy behind him.
Lance held his hands up in defense. "Calm down kitty, I'm just kidding."
Keith hesitated. "Don't call me that...ever again."
Lance only shrugged after that.

The period passed and Keith had finished the quiz. He turned it in before grabbing his stuff and heading to the office. He saw Takashi at his locker and stopped by for a second.
"Hey, Keith."
"I have lunch detention."
Takashi turned to him. "Why?"
"Lance was annoying me so I told him to 'shut the fuck up' in front of the teacher."
Takashi nodded. "Alright, well, take that as a learning experience from now on. Have fun at detention."
Keith nodded before continuing his way to the office. When he got there, he tapped on the behavior support room's door. When it opened he saw a man standing there.
"Lunch detention?" he asked.
Keith nodded.
The man let Keith in and motioned for him to pick a seat. Keith walked to the back and sat in the corner, closest to the window.
"So, Mr., what did you do to get detention?"
"I cussed at someone in my math class."
The man nodded and let out a small chuckle. "I used to do that all the time. Spent half my school year in detention. I guess that's why I wanted to help kids who were following in my path."
"I'm not following in your path," Keith responded bluntly, "that kid was just pissing me off."
The man nodded slowly. "Well I guess you can get your lunch."
"Not hungry," Keith protested, not meeting his gaze.
"Go." The man's voice was smothered in authority.
Keith grumbled before standing up and walking to the door. He let out a sigh and stepped outside. That man was just like his goddamn foster-mother. He walked slowly to the cafeteria, making sure to take his sweet time. When he finally got there, the line was almost gone. Walking to the last person, he waited.
The person glanced over his shoulder and scoffed. Then he whispered something to his buddy and they both started chortling.
Keith heard something along the lines of, "...emo...around Takashi." He snorted, loud enough for the boys to hear.
They turned to face him. "Somethin' funny?" the boy in front of Keith snarked, who was known as Lotor. His name was unusual, and as far as Keith knew he was European. His accent was pretty entertaining.
"Yeah, maybe the fact that you fail to impress anybody with shitty insults." Keith knew that it was a little risky to say things like that to Lotor but honestly he could care less.
"Really?" Lotor began, but Keith didn't care. He looked around the cafeteria, hoping to catch a glimpse of Takashi. Then, he found him sitting at a table with his band members, laughing.
A glint of jealously went through Keith and he sighed.
"Are you even listening to me?" Lotor growled.
"Honestly," Keith turned to him, "no. By the way, it's your turn to get lunch."
Lotor gave him a glare before turning to get food.
This was highschool for Keith Kogane. About half of the school viewed him as an emo misfit. Half of it might have been because he indeed was an emo misfit. Even though he hung around Takashi, that didn't help his low reputation. People were going to view him as something bad, and he was fine with that. Then there were popular kids like Lance. Keith didn't understand why, but he always admired something about the immature Cuban boy. He just couldn't put his finger on it.
(sorry this chapter was kinda short, I just want to start posting more frequently)
