Chapter 10 Beauty in Everything

Garnet had been standing in Pearlsroom for nearly thirty minutes, and in ten more she would have toleave. She didn't want to leave Pearl alone with whatever was goingon, but she just wasn't close enough to the girl yet to know what todo.

She'd thrown the flower out asPearl had said to, but after that she hadn't gotten a response fromthe girl.

"Pearl, can you please tell mewhat's going on?" Garnet asked again moving closer to thedancer.

Silence was her only answer.

"Do you... want me to callyour mother?" She asked, a new question this time.

Pearl thought on that for a moment.Her mother had probably felt this way before.. when her father leftthem. So she nodded to Garnet, who nearly beamed at getting aresponse at all.

"Can I use your phone then?"She asked pointing to the forgotten cell phone on the side table.Pearl nodded again then went back to watch people, less, now that itwas dark, but still a few.

"Hello Pearl, I waswondering when you would call." Came the sarcastic answerafter two rings.

"Uh, no this is Garnet. I'm avolunteer at the hospital..." Garnet said awkwardly.

"Is Pearl alright?"Blanche asked, all amusement gone from her voice.

"Well, she's fine,physically... but she's just sitting in the window, and she won'ttell me what's wrong and she wanted you so..."

"I'm on my way. Will you,stay with her until I get there?" Garnet could here rustlingaround in the back round as Blanche presumably gathered her coat andthings.

"I would, but I'm not familyand visiting hours end in five minutes... I'll stay as long as Ican."

All she hear was a click inresponse.

"I called your mom. She'scoming right now..." Garnet said rubbing her arm awkwardly.

Blanche arrived in less than sevenminutes, she'd been driving very fast and would have gotten aspeeding ticket if she'd been caught. When she got there Garnet wasstill in the room but she was being asked to leave.

"Thank you, Garnet right?"Blanche asked, completely disregarding the orderly.

"Anytime Ms. White" Theyoung woman smiled and left, looking back at Pearl as she did.

Blanche just gave the young man adeath glare and he left right away.

Blanche singed deeply as she lookto her daughter, tiny next to the huge window. Hooked up to so manywires and cords.

"Pearl?" She askedquietly, when she didn't get a reaction she moved closer.

"Can you tell me whathappened?" She tried again, this time Pearl spoke back, but sheneither moved nor looked at her as she spoke.

Her voice hard and cold, "howdid you feel when father left you?"

Shocked by the sudden questionBlanche hesitated before answering. "Well, it hurt, sure, butmore I felt like, I wanted to understand why he was leaving, so Idemanded that from him, the why, and it honestly didn't make me feelany better." She said, slowly and softly.
