Phil
The soft raindrops echoed quietly off the glass pane of Phil's window. He sighed as he stared out into the gray clouds that hung overhead. They were finally home, which was good and bad. Good in the fact he no longer had to wake up at 7 in the morning just to spend all day outside exhausting himself. However, it was also bad in the sense he now had a choice to make. Dan or his friends? He let out a sigh before glancing at the huge pile of summer work he had, senior year was going to kick his ass and he didn't even care. Maybe he should get a tutor? Dan was good at math right?
Thinking of the innocent pastel brought a smile to his face. God he really loved that boy. As if on cue the familiar marimba tone played and the tan boys face popped up on Phil's phone signaling a FaceTime call. Picking up his phone and the call Phil was greeted by his adorable boyfriend with curly hair, a light pink beanie positioned on his head so perfectly it would've taken Phil an hour to get it on that perfectly and it still wouldn't have looked right. The beanie complimented the white jumper that had long sleeves that covered his hands. Phil never told him but that was his weakness, Dan looked way too adorable with sweater paws and it went straight through Phil. Dan smiled at his boyfriend his dimples showing as a large dog hopped up onto his monochrome sheets.
The dog looked at the phone before laying his head on Dans lap.
"Hey baby." Phil greeted causing the boy on the other line to blush slightly.
"Hello love."
"What's with the curls? I'm not complaining, just curious." Phil asked as he leaned back on his desk chair.
"Oh...um..." Dan blushed a deeper shade before answering, "I was thinking, why not embrace the curls this year? Plus straightening it takes forever and never looks good." Phil nodded about to make another comment before he heard a car door slam outside.Eyes widened in shock, he looked out his bedroom window, seeing a black car parked across the street.
"Phil?" Dan asked visibly worried.
"Shit. Sorry love, I'm going to have to call you back. I love you!" Phil quickly stated, Dan barely got to reply with his: "Love you too. Wait, what? Phil are you okay?" Before the screen went black with two beeps.Phil's phone vibrated as Dan expressed confusion and concern over a variety of texts. Phil shoved his phone in his pocket just before his bedroom door swung open. The man Phil wasn't looking forward to seeing anytime soon stumbled in from the hall.
"Dad? You okay?" Phil asked cautiously, silently cursing. If there was a god then why would he allow for people like his dad to exist. Sure Phil was probably rather harsh always wishing his dad didn't exist. He wasn't the worst person, and he wasn't always terrible. When he didn't drink he was actually a nice guy, he would crack jokes and make it feel like his family was normal. However, when he did drink, it wasn't pretty. Sometimes he'd go out and have affairs leaving for days on end leaving Phil and his mother, that was the least of what he did while he was drunk. Other times he'd hit Phil, occasionally it was his mother who'd get the blunt end which crossed a line with Phil, who would try his best to stand up for the only family he had left.
Phil just wanted him to leave and stay gone, not put his mom through that every other week. He was not that lucky this time. The man didn't say anything before he collapsed onto the ground of Phil's room next to his bed. Sighing, Phil quietly left the room heading down to his mother. The teen had memorized which floorboards and stairs creaked and carefully avoided them, walking into the kitchen he saw his mother leaning against a counter, the array of ingredients lay in front of her.
"Mum?" She glanced up at her son with a half hearted smile. "You alright?" She nodded without a word. Sighing she saw the faint light of Phil's phone from where it stuck out of his jeans pocket, he hadn't fully put it in when rushed out of his room.
"Did you make a friend at camp?" She laughed as she rose off the counter to begin cooking dinner. Phil's face turned a soft shade of red as he took out his phone to see about 20 messages and 3 missed calls from Dan freaking out.
"Yeah, guess you could say that..." his mother rose an eyebrow as Phil shot Dan a text saying he was fine and it was just his dad coming home.Luckily, Dan had let the topic go, but his mother had not.
"Who are they?" She asked as she began cutting vegetables. Phil sighed and began cutting a pepper as he began to tell his mother about the pastel boy.
"His names Dan, he actually goes to my school." His mother nodded urging him to go on as she began a second pepper. "He's the really shy boy who always wears the light colors and flowers."
"Oh! He's such a sweet kid. Howell isn't it? His entire family is so nice."
"Yeah." Phil stared with a small smile. His mom would understand his and Dans relationship, she'd be fully supportive. And Phil knew that, but he listened to the small voice telling him to hold off on telling her."He reminds me of your old friends." She stated half heartedly causing the punk boy some confusing.
"What do you mean?"
"The ones that made you truly happy, you'd come running home with a huge smile telling me all about the made up adventures you guys had. You're just not the same with the kids here, what are their names? Austin and Paul?"
"Logan Paul." Was all Phil said in return, he knew his new friends were dicks and disrespectful, and overall not great for Phil's moral.Phil took a deep sigh and looked out the window as he finished cutting the final pepper. What was he going to do?
