The next day Camila woke up excited for the day. It was the first day of classes and she was excited to learn. Unlike most other students there, Camila actually enjoyed the educational part of the university experience. She was a Psychology major and loved learning about what makes humans tick.
As she was on her way to her first class she spotted a coffee shop and decided she had enough time to grab a caffeine boost.
She placed her order at the cash and went to stand by the counter.
"LAUREN- double espresso" she heard the barista yell.
'It can't be her' Camila pleaded with the universe.
But no luck, she saw the black haired girl walk towards the counter from somewhere at the back of the shop.
"Oh! Hey Camila" Lauren greeted in surprise "Early class?"
"Hi Lauren, yeah 8:30 in Southam. How about you?" she managed to get out.
"Yeah, 8:30 in Minto" knowing that both buildings were on the same side of campus she asked "W-would you maybe want to walk together?"
Camila smiled in response. Feeling butterflies at the fact Lauren wanted to spend time with her.
"Definitely!"
"CAMILA- MOCHA FRAP" they both heard.
Camila grabbed her drink and the two girls made their way out of the coffee shop. It being so early in the morning, neither of them were super talkative but they both enjoyed each other's presence.
"So, sorry about keeping you up last night. Dinah and I were pretty wasted when we got back" Lauren apologized after a few moments walking in silence.
"No I had fun with you, don't even worry about it"
Camila smiled and touched Lauren's forearm to let her know it was okay. Both girls felt a jolt of current at the contact. Lauren looked in surprise at where Camila's hand was touching her and Camila withdrew quickly.
More silence as the girls walked towards their destination. Both girls kept stealing glances at each other wondering what the other was thinking.
"Hey Lauren!" They heard another voice yell behind them. Turning around they say a tall light haired girl running towards them.
"Luce!" Lauren exclaimed upon recognizing who was running towards them
"I missed ya, chica bonita" Lucy teased as she tackled Lauren in tight hug.
Lauren laughed and hugged her back.
"Missed you too"
"And damnn who do we have here? You're super beautiful, mami" Lucy flirted as she eyed Camila up and down slowly.
Camila turned red at Lucy's boldness and started playing with her coffee cup.
"This is Camila. She, uhh, she lives in the same building as Normani and I" Lauren introduced, stammering over what to introduce Camila as. Were they friends? She wasn't sure given that her feelings for the girl were not exactly 'friendly'.
"...and Camila, this is Lucy, she and I met in res first year" she continued.
"Nice to meet you"
"You too, babe" Lucy continued completely unaware of the effect she was having on the girl "What's your major?"
"Psych with a minor in Music. You?"
"Philosophy. I take some psych courses though. Lauren and I both signed up for 3208 this term actually"
"Social? With Brown?"
"Yeaaah, think so..."
"Yeah, it's definitely with Brown" Lauren interjected into their conversation.
"I'm in that one too!" Camila replied excitedly, glad to have a class with Lauren this term.
"Cool! I guess we'll see you there this afternoon then" Lucy smiled at her.
They had just reached Camila's building so they all said their farewells and headed off towards their classes.
Lauren was both excited and nervous at the fact that she would see Camila again that afternoon. No doubt she wanted to see her, but she wondered how long she could fight off the feelings she was developing- especially if they were forced to be together two classes a week for a whole semester!
She decided to put it out of her head as her and Lucy reached their own class and settled into their seats at the back of the room. She thought maybe it was best not to think about it and just let it be.
