I was still trying to grade papers at school when I was called into the office. "It's for the principal, not the secretary." She clarified, her cat like eyes scanned her computer screen.
"I'll be back." I said closing the door. I walked down the hall to the principals offices and saw him looking very cross.
"Take a seat, we're going to be here a while." He said writing down my name and the date on a paper.
"So-" he said calmly despite his face. "Your mom, was in the hospital?" He asked. I felt my shoulders tense. "No, my dad set me up with my ex boyfriend Timothee. He gave me flowers but I refused them, and told him that college is more important than having a relationship. My dad wanted us back together." I said, pressure rolled off my back, and he seemed pleased. "It makes me thrilled, when a woman speaks her mind to a man!" He said. "My wife is a hardcore feminist, and I've grown to support the cause of sexual harassment, and sexism." "Ah." I nodded. "I pulled you in here because your friend Amelie?" "Yes." I said feeling nervous. "She said something about Timothee stalking you in a way." He said writing down what I said earlier on the paper. "She likes to butter everything up, uh- it's just a douche bag ex that wants me in his pants." I realized my wording. He didn't seem to care. "I'm glad one girl in this school has common sense." He laughed. "Well, another thing. Dellis Anderson. You two are close, yes?" "He goes by Dell, but yes. He's my current boyfriend." "I swore you two were together freshman year." He said scratching his beard. "We were, and he moved back here again." I'm starting to feel somewhat creeped out by theses questions, they keep getting more invasive."I'm afraid I have some bad news." He said. I waited anxiously by it was my turn to talk. "About who?" I said leaning forward in my chair. "Timothee." He said. I felt uneasy and rested, I waited. "As he was driving home from the hospital.." I heard his words start to slur and I went off into space.
"He got to the bridge and leaned over for a bit. I picked him up and took him home. He told me to tell you about this." "Honestly, I'm probably going to change my mind but, he's a pretentious creep, and like I said; he wants in my pants." I said getting up. "You're excused." He said. "Good luck! With aiding Mrs. Freeman I mean.." He said professionally, as I left his office.
The bell rang for school to be out and to my surprise it was raining. I met Dell at my car, and told him about what happened. "From what I've seen and heard about him, I'm kinda glad he's gone." He said zipping open his backpack.
"I just- I'm sorry but- when we made out, I stopped when he touched me like below the neck area. When I would pull away he would get really mad, and just- leave." I said, I looked at Dell whos dark brown eyes and sun tanned skin, seemed a bit sorrowful. "I'm sorry." I said starting my car.We ate out at Sonic and bathed in grease filled food. "I hate fast food, but popcorn chicken keeps me going on a rainy day." I said smiling at Dell, who ate a relish dog. "Are those any good?" I asked as he looked up. "Yeah, I mean I've never had it but, it just sounded god, and I was right." He said smiling back. I really had feelings for him. I didn't throw around the love word much, because I feel like it wouldn't mean that much if you actually meant it, if you used it all the time. I kept it in until the lightning struck.
"Hey." I said as I looked over and saw him sleeping. I poked him and he jumped. "I had one of those dreams where you fall and before you hit the ground you wake up." He laughed. "Those are weird." I said. We drove to his house and I dropped him off. "Dell." I said feeling chilly.
"Yeah?" He said turning around and coming back. "I love you.""I'm Gay."
Was all he said.
