At first, I tried being myself and more open to boys because previously I either ignored them or didn't talk much. Seeing as it was the start of the year, I was getting a new lab partner in bio. My bio teacher, Mrs Harlot, doesn't really like any students so she partners us with people who we would never be friends with in a million years. I knew I would never be partnered with any of my friends so I prepared my self for the worst.
Just then a new kid came in. He had the most adorable, dorky square glasses on and was carrying a large stack of books. He had brown hair falling in his face and a pencil behind his ear.
Unluckily for him, he was tripped over as he walked in by the school's well known womaniser and resident bad boy, Jonah Phillips. Jonah had dated nearly every girl in my level, rode a Harley to school and had a Matt Damon sort of look about him. The new kid's papers went flying and I immediately bent down and helped pick them up. Mrs Harlot gave me an evil grin.
"Well, Miss Chambers, it's a good thing you didn't trip Mr Anders, yes Mr Phillip I know it was you so you now have lunchtime detention, and Miss Chambers, you are going to be Mr Anders lab partner."
I ducked my head to hide the blush creeping up my neck. One by one Mrs Harlot paired the students and were assigned to their designated tables. Once we were all seated, I offered my hand for the new boy to shake.
"Hi, I'm Quincey Chambers, sorry about that by the way."
He gently gave my hand a shake.
" I'm Tyler, and I don't mind it, I ought to be used to it now anyway."
"No one should be used to being tripped. Hey, are you taking art, because your sketches are really good."
"Yeah, I am taking art, are you?"
"Definitely, it's my favourite class. The teacher is really nice."
"That's a relief because I think this one has enough evil bones for the whole staff."
I stifled a laugh but gave Tyler a grin anyway. After all, he needed someone to be nice to him on his first day.
After bio I had AP English, the only class where I actually liked the teacher, Miss Thomason. Then at Lunch break, Tyler sat with us, and finally, to finish off the day, the dreaded double math. Despite the fact that I am really bad at it, I look forward to math because it's the only class I have with Charlie. Throughout the whole class Char and I passed notes back and forth. Mr Troughman never caught us because he was so involved in his debate with the school nerd, Xander Bellmson. Mr Troughman never seemed to understand why any of the other students were bored by mathematics.
After school I went home and did my homework. The rest of the week went the same way, math with Char and bio with Tyler. Maybe the school year wasn't going to be so bad after all. But Char had that mischievous sparkle in her eyes and I knew she was already plotting.
