Not What I Expected

"It'll be fine, you'll be fine," I whisper to myself as I'm brushing my dark brown hair, "oh my gosh, why am I freaking out so much? What's the worst that could happen?" I look into the mirror, the girl in my reflection looks nothing like Zach Herron, she does look terrified though.

"Everleigh! We gotta go!" I hear my mother yell from the bed room.

I paint a smile on my clearly very nervous face, I know it's the most fake smile ever, but hopefully it will turn into a real smile by the time I go to meet Zach, after the concert.

"Oh look! The arena is only like 5 minutes from here," my mom exclaims, looking up from her phone, "why don't we just walk!" (see what I did there haha)

After taking one look at the busy street that was densely packed with cars, I agreed, and we headed towards the Arena. LA had a lot of cool things to offer, but it pretty much looks like any other city, lots of traffic, tall buildings, and tons and attention drawing advertisements plastered on everything from windshields to giant digital billboards.

"Are you still nervous?" My mother asks.

"Of course I am, " I state, giving up on trying to lie.

"Honey, he won't be able to recognize you, he'll treat you like any other fan."

I look down, focusing on the sidewalk as we continue towards the concert. I think that's what I'm afraid of, I don't want Zach to treat me like any other fan, I want him to remember me, and I'm afraid of how disappointed I'll be when he doesn't.

A few minutes later, I lift my gaze from the sidewalk to the giant building in front of me, thousands of fans are waiting outside. Great more standing. My knee is already killing me from the walk over here, I don't know if I can make it through this whole concert. I reached down and tightened the straps on my knee brace.

"Are you okay?" My mom asked, "maybe this wasn't the best idea-"

"No! Mommy, I appreciate it, but I'm fine," I cut her off, fighting the urge to bite my lip. I'm definitely not fine, my leg is throbbing and it hurts to stand on, but I have to meet Zach.

After about 15 more minutes of nervously popping my knuckles and balancing on my right leg, we were all brought into the arena. It was huge and packed with people! Wow my brother is pretty famous. I'm still in awe of the amazing stage lights, when five boys run on stage with the biggest smiles on their faces.

"What's up LA?!" I hear Zach yell into the crowd, followed by tons of girls screams. I was really close to the front row, so I could see them perfectly. I'm in awe of their voices as the begin to sing "taking you," they're amazing!

After many more incredible songs, it was time for meet and greet. Oh God it's time for meet and greet. At this point, I'm ready to collapse. I'm standing in a very very long line and basically trembling because I'm terrified to meet Zach, not to mention my knee is killing me. My mom is already walking back to the hotel because she doesn't have a meet and greet pass, so I'm waiting in line, alone, while my nerves are eating me alive.

About 35 minutes later, there are only two girls in front of me. Oh my gosh I can't believe I'm about to meet my long lost twin. I watch as the first girl approaches the five boys, she hugs each of them, talks a little bit, then gets a picture. Then the next girl happily walks to them, I was trying to calm myself down when I was interrupted by a strong force pushing me forwards. The girl behind me had bumped into me, which would have been fine, except my left knee twisted as I was shoved to the ground. I hissed in pain as I hit the floor, which immediately caught the attention of everyone around me, including the Why Don't We boys. The fan that bumped me crouches next to me, a worried expression coloring her face.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"

I open my mouth to answer but I'm interrupted by a very concerned 17 year old boy at my side, Zach.

"What happened?" He asks the girl, because I'm in way too much pain to respond right now.

"I stepped back too fast and knocked her over, I'm assuming she had a previous knee injury because she's wearing a knee brace," the girl says, clearly very panicked.

Zach looks at me and says, "we need to get you to the paramedic."

"No no no it's fine, I promise," I say, regaining my composure, "I'm okay."

Daniel, who has joined Zach at my side, looks at me in disbelief. I try to stand up, to prove to them that I'm okay, but I fail miserably and take back my spot on the concrete flooring.

"Right, so let's take you to the paramedics," Daniel says as he lifts me off the floor, bridal style, and carries me backstage, to three woman in white doctor's coats. He sits me in a metallic, foldable chair and explains how he needs to get back to meet and greet, but he will be back soon. This is definitely not how I expected to meet my brother.

"Honey, what's your name?" One lady asks me, snapping me out of me trance.

"What? Oh! Everleigh," I reply, no need to get into details about my last name.

"Do you have any pre-existing injuries?"

"Yes, I tore my ACL last December," I state. Wow, it's hard to believe that was only 7 and a half months ago.

"Oh my! Well luckily, you haven't done anything that severe, I'd say you just irritated it. You should be okay."

The lady smiles and walks back to her tiny desk, leaving me alone backstage.
