~Miguel's POV~
We started walking to the plaza. I remembered all the sights I had seen when I was here a couple of years ago. Except one thing was missing, the giant stage De La Cruz performed on. Since everyone had learned he was an ego-filled, selfish, credit-taking jerk(!), the stage served no purpose. Papa Héctor was telling me how they wanted him to perform because he was the real star, but he refused. He wanted to spend time with his family! He never did want to perform for everyone anyways.
"Ok! Here we are. The plaza." Maria smiled with her cheery attitude, as usual.
"Where do we even start to look anyways? This place is massive." Daniella said.
"We could start near the stores and everything." Maria thought.
"But we MUST stay together." Mama Imelda said.
"Si. We don't want any of you chamacos getting lost." Papa Héctor said.
"And also you must stay away from the alleyways." Maria added.
"Why? Because creepy skeletons come?" Socorro asked.
"Yes. Some even say De La Cruz is there, waiting for revenge."
"That's probably just some myth. He fell under another bell for goodness sake! How could he get out if he was trapped underneath it?" I asked. I was thinking logically about it.
"The kid's got a point." Papa Héctor laughed.
"Point is, we need you to stick with us and be safe. We're going to feel like it was on us if you get yourselves lost." Maria added. She barely knew us, yet wanted to make sure we were ok. I mean, she was helping us get back home.
"Ok. Now, let's go!!" Daniella said.
~Time skip to after looking in stores and stuff~
"No luck, figures." Daniella groaned unhappily.
"Hey, that means we just need to look a little harder." Maria said, trying to cheer her up.
"Yeah. I know you've got some family around here somewhere." Papa Héctor said.
"Exactly, 'somewhere'." Daniella groaned still.
"It's ok. We'll find them, I promise." I smiled at Daniella, taking her hand. She sighed and smiled back.
"Thanks Miguel." She kissed my cheek and hugged me from the side.
"Why don't we go take a break from all this searching and go get some ice cream or something!" Maria exclaimed.
"Yeah!!" The three of us excitedly yelled.
"Anything for these chamacos." Papa Héctor smiled, as he ruffled our hair.
"Ok, where do you three want to go?" Mama Imelda asked.
"Ice cream did sound good..." I said.
"Well, follow me! I know an amazing ice cream parlor." We all followed her, until I realized I couldn't see her. They were all to far ahead of me.
"I-I don't see them Miguel..." Daniella said, her voice shaking.
"We just... need to keep walking...! I'm sure we'll see a sign or something." I said, trying to keep my self together. Yes, I had walked out by myself before without my familia, but this was different. I had actually lost them, in a giant plaza. I saw Daniella turn her head and I did too. There was one of the alleyways Maria had talked about. For a fraction of a second, I swear I saw somebody run by down there.
"You saw that too, right?" Daniella asked.
"S-Si..." I shakily replied. She squeezed my hand and ran with me.
"There's the sign!" She said, pointing up. We ran inside and saw the familia. We were panting from all the running. Papa Héctor ran up to us.
"I THOUGHT WE LOST YOU!! DON'T DO THAT AGAIN!" He yelled in our faces, we frowned. "I-I'm sorry... What happened?!" He asked. We just hugged him.
"W-we got lost... I-I'm sorry..." Daniella said, hugging him tightly.
"It's ok. Just don't loose again.. What happened anyways?" He asked, curious.
"We...we'll tell you in a minute..."
