Cookies for breakfast?

I woke up annoyingly early the next morning. Like 4:47 in the morning early, with a sickening sense of panic as I flew out of bed to get ready for work, before the rest of my brain caught up with me and I remembered that I was not, in fact, running late for work. I didn't even have work this morning. See, this is what working with different districts gets you, my body had to readjust from morning shifts to night shifts. I groaned and took my bra back off, putting my pajama top back on and crawling back into bed for a few hours. Unfortunately the blind panic that made up three quarters of my brain had already woken me up enough that I could not fall back asleep, despite the fact that I was exhausted. With another world-weary groan I stood back up and shuffled to the kitchen to make myself breakfast. After several arduous moments I stood before my now messy counter admiring my breakfast achievement.

A bowl of Frosted Flakes

I was so proud, although I wasn't proud of the fact that I missed the bowl and spilled a couple flakes all over the table. I hopped up onto the island counter and opened up Youtube, playing Jack's video from yesterday. Subnautica? Wait then why did he just call it sub-nauseous? Eh whatever, it was a pretty game. I balanced my phone on my knee and picked up my bowl of cereal, munching on it as I watched him freak out over audio and something about the lighting through the water. I smiled to myself, he was kind of adorable. Setting my empty bowl on the counter I yawned, somehow Jack's bouncing pitch made me super sleepy. I slid off the counter and stumbled to the couch. With another yawn I set my phone on the coffee table next to me, drawing the table closer to me as I laid down.

My eyelids fluttered open to the sound of a high five sound effect. I moaned into the couch pillow and paused the video. It was on the 7th episode of a game I didn't recognize. The time read 1:58. Crap, I was supposed to go over to Jack's today. I scrambled to my feet for the second time today and ran to my room to get dressed.

20 minutes later I was smoothing my hair in the mirror, avoiding looking at the shadows under my eyes. I really should be getting more sleep, but I wanted to hang out with Jack more. With a soft smile I grabbed my keys and left my apartment, excited to see Jackaboy. I jogged down the stairs and walked to another building a little ways away. The apartment complex was all owned by the same person, but the particular building that Jack lived in was quite a bit nicer than mine, to be expected of course. Jack was up on the third floor, I knew that because I'd helped him move in a massive electric drum set once. I knocked on his door with the same pop-goes-the-weasel tune I always used. There was a rattling crash from inside and a muffled curse. I snickered under my breath. The door swung open to reveal a mildly flustered Jack. He smiled brightly at me.

"Hi Y/n!" I smiled at his happy greeting, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.

"Hey Jack. Sorry, I would have been here sooner, but I fell asleep on my couch."

"No big deal," he said with a chuckle. "I just woke up myself. I was eating breakfast, well lunch I guess." His grin had faded to a soft upturn of his lips but his eyes were a very bright, happy blue.

"Oh, sorry. I can come back later." I grimaced. He shook his head and stepped aside to gesture for me to come inside.

"Nah, don't worry about it. I, ha, I accidentally spilled it anyways." I walked into Jack's place with him following behind. It was as nice as I remember, clean with mostly white furniture and walls with splashes of color from various fan art and fan gifts scattered artfully on the walls and bookshelves. Jack walked ahead of me and I followed him back to the kitchen. I paused in the doorway to survey the mess in front of me.

"You were making cookies for breakfast?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. He laughed from where he was picking up a spilled bowl of flour.
