I followed jack down the hall to a door that had to be his recording room. I had never seen any of his apartment besides the entryway and the kitchen so this was all brand new to me. He opened up the door and flipped on the lights, I stood in shock at the array of electronics before me. His cord management really was terrible, this whole room was a huge fire hazard. But the computer was badass. He sat down in his famous chair and turned on his computer, moving his mic out of the way as we waited for it to turn on. He loaded up Steam and opened up Subnautica. With a smile, he turned and waved me over. Jack stood up and gestured for me to sit in his chair. Silently refusing, I just looked at him with a dubious expression.
"You're going to let me sit in your chair?" He just shrugged with a smile,
"Yeah? Why not?"
"Because that's the chair. It's special." A gleam sparkled in his devious eyes.
"Well if it makes you feel better I can sit in it and you can sit on my lap" his lips were twitching as he fought his grin. Not one to be bested, I just looked pointedly at the chair, then back up at him. His smirk dropped a little and he looked surprised. Looking extremely amused Jack sat down in his chair, leaning back to make room for me. I hesitated for a split second, doubting my judgment for trying to call his bluff. I couldn't go back now though so I walked over and sat down lightly on his lap.
"Am I hurting you?" I asked over my shoulder. He shook his head, adjusting my hips ever so slightly. Turning my attention back to the computer, I set my hands on the keyboard and mouse respectively. I pressed 'continue' and I was launched into a game so stunningly beautiful that I thought I really was stranded in an alien ocean. There's a bit of a difference between watching Jack play it and playing it for yourself. I had to spend a few minutes just admiring the scenery.
"You're about to run out of air" Jack reminded me with a quiet laugh. I shook myself and readjusted my left hand on the keys.
"Right. Sorry. How do I swim up?"
"Look up, press W and space" my character hit the surface just as my vision was starting to go black.
"Close call" he chuckled, shifting so he could see around my shoulder.
"Hush up. You've done the same exact thing" I was hyper-aware of every movement he made. The consistent tap of his fingers against the armrests on his chair, the slide of his foot across the ground, the soft whoosh of his breathing and the way his exhaled breath tickled the back of my neck. My stomach knotted and my chest was tight. What the hell was happening?
"How would you know about that?" His question shocked me out of my thoughts and I made my character dive back underwater, noticing his food levels I set out to find some Peepers.
"I watched the video you posted yesterday," I said, trying to sound casual but in reality I was a little embarrassed.
"You watch my videos?" I smile to myself, both at his words and also at my vicious murdering of native life on this planet.
"On occasion. You were telling me about it yesterday and I was curious" Jack moved under me to straighten up, his chest bumping into my back. I could feel his enthusiasm in the tension of his arms and chest where they occasionally brushed against me.
"Awesome! So what did you think of it?" my character breached the surface like a dolphin, hitting the surface briefly only to dive back down the next moment.
"You drown a lot." I responded dryly.
"I was talking about the game!" he cried, fake upset. I smiled over my shoulder at him, and he looked up from the screen to me. My brain capacity shattered as I saw his eyes up close. In this light they were a deep ocean blue, shot through with varying shades of lighter blues; with a ring of dark grey around the iris. It was like looking down at an endless ocean with the sunlight shining through the water. Forcing my brain to restart, I took in a breath I didn't realize I needed. I scrambled for something to say before Jack realized what just happened.
