Chapter Three

I stepped onto the school grounds and headed to my new classroom, Brooke by my side the whole way. On our way to the building, everyone stared in our direction. I could hear bits and pieces of the whispers that come along with those stares.

“…really pretty…”

“…hanging with that creep…”

“…probably a b*tch too…”

I tried to ignore the whispers and continued my conversation with Brooke.

“So, tell me, do you got a bae,” she paused, clicking her tongue, “or nah?”

I laughed silently at that. I don’t know how that phrase came to be, but Vine is where I first heard of it. I found it strange that people said that all and thought it was sorta stupid. But coming from her it seemed… normal.

“No, no.  I do not have a boyfriend. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if you did,” I said, cocking an eyebrow at her.

“Man, I wish. Would have been nice…” she stopped walking and stared up at the clear blue sky, crossing her arms over her chest.

It was obvious that she had begun to day dream; I could tell by the large smile spread across her face.

She snapped out of her daze and said, “Well anyway, the reason I asked was because blue eyes over there seems to have a thing for you.” She nodded to my left. I turned my head to where she was looking. The guy she was referring to was pretty cute. Scratch that; really cute. I could feel his deep blue eyes scanning my body. Without meaning to, I began to stare at him, absorbing his looks. His black hair had obviously been gelled up. Normally, I hate when boys do that because they can hardly ever pull it off, but he wore it well. I could tell he was well built, since he had his uniform shirt unbuttoned entirely, wearing a black muscle shirt underneath.

I could feel blood rushing to my face when we made eye contact. He noticed that I was blushing and winked at me. My heart did a little dance in my chest and I quickly looked away. I had never felt this way before and frankly I didn’t want to feel it. I quickly shook off the feeling, not wanting to become the next victim of a schoolgirl crush.

We continued to walk to our new homeroom class. When we reached our classroom I took a look inside and scanned all the faces. I came across one face I was sure I had never seen before. It was a tall boy, well built, with blond hair that partially covered one of his eyes which were emerald green. I didn’t see the appeal in him, and obviously I must have been missing something because every girl in the entire class surrounded him. He was speaking to them casually when he glanced up at me. His stare was agitating me; something about the look on his face made me want to punch him. He smirked at me and I knew that if I stayed there any longer, I would definitely end up punching his lights out.

I turned to walk out of the class when I realized Brooke hadn’t moved, or maybe even breathed, since we stepped inside. She was staring hard at the ground so I bent down to look at her in the eye and said, “Hey, are you ok?” I asked, my voice full of concern. What was she so afraid of? “Th- that’s him,” she whispered, looking at the ground.

“Who? What are you talking about?” I asked. She still looked really freaked out, like she’d seen a ghost.

“Tyler,” she said.
