Did you that falling in love with your soul mate the very first time you fall in love rarely ever happens, yet somehow they managed it.
Ayumi walked along the dirt path as the moon shined brightly in the sky she was relaxed and enjoying the silence of the night around her. The mission she and her squad had returned from early that day was a success and they were given a few days off. As she walked Ayumi failed to notice the trio of shinobi walking in her direction and ran right into one of them, knocking bother herself and the other person to the ground.
“I’m so sorry are you-“ she began to apologize as she looked up and her blue eyes met a pair of sea foam ones “G- Lord Kazekage!”
Ayumi jumped up and pulled Gaara up as well, dusting him off before bowing to him.
“I’m sorry Lord Kazekage I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going” Ayumi said apologizing once again.
Gaara frowned at her formalities as Kankuro and Temari snickered lightly at how red Ayumis’ face was becoming, they found it cute how oblivious they could be about the others feelings.
“Well I’m tired so I think I’m gonna head back to our room” Temari said, faking a yawn “Kankuro why don’t you come with me?”
“But-“ Kankuro started but a quick look from Temari clued him in on her plan “Great idea, I’m feeling tired too.”
Before anyone could protest the two were already half way down the path leading back to their room, each wearing a sly grin.
“Hello Ayumi” Gaara said, breaking the silence that fell over them.
“Hello Lor-“
“It’s Gaara” he said cutting her off as he gave her a sour look “You don’t have to be so formal.”
Ayumi nodded in understanding then gave him a big smile.
“Hello Gaara!” she chirped happily “It’s so good to see you again.”
“It’s good to see you too Ayumi, I heard you made Chunin” Gaara said.
“Yeah but it’s nothing compared to becoming Kazekage” she laughed.
The two began walking unconsciously talking about the events that have happened since the last time they saw each other. Soon they were at a small lake sitting side by side as they talked.
“I heard that the council in Suna is trying to find you a wife” Ayumi said, completely unaware of the conversation she had just started “How’s that going?”
“It’s not going very well” Gaara muttered in response.
“Why’s that? Surely there are plenty of women who want to marry you!” Ayumi said in surprise, but from somewhere within here a hopeful light sparked in the brown haired young lady.
“There are, too many in fact, I’ve met hundreds of women wanting to marry me but-“ Gaara said and then cut himself off.
“But what?” Ayumi asked curiously.
“All of them love me and I don’t know how to love someone” Gaara answered, looking out to the water with a look of annoyance.
“Gaara, you can learn to love it’s not just something you’re born knowing how to do; you have to learn and to do that you have to find someone willing to work with you and teach you” Ayumi said with a gentle smile.
“What does love even feel like?” Gaara questioned.
“Well” Ayumi said scratching the back of her head “I can tell you what it feels like to love someone but I’ve never been loved by anyone but my family in return.”
“Then tell me what that’s like” Gaara urged.
Ayumi sighed lightly and looked out to the water, she trusted Gaara and was comfortable with him she found it easy to open up to him but how was she supposed to tell him her feels of love for someone and not let him know that it’s him.
“Alright” Ayumi agreed “When I’m around him I feel safe and happy, like everything fits into place and that as long as he’s around everything will be alright. When he leaves I feel like a part of me is missing but I work through it until I am able to see him again.”
She felt so stupid, like her feels came straight out of a cliché romance novel but they were true; if only he would realize that those feelings were for him.
“Have you told this person that you love him?” Gaara asked.
“No, most definitely not” Ayumi laughed nervously as her face flared to a deep crimson.
“Why not?” he asked curiously.
“Well chances are that he’d never feel the same and he’ll end up with someone who’s much better than me but as long as he’s happy I don’t care” she answered, looking at the ground with sad blue eyes.
“There is nothing and no one better than you” Gaara muttered, turning his head to look at her “You’re like a desert flower, such a rare find and breathtakingly beautiful” Gaara said.
“Gaara” she muttered. Turning her head to look at him as well.
Again her blue eyes met his sea foam and a barrage of emotions bubbled up inside of her until Ayumi broke eye contact and stood but.
“I-It’s getting late, I should be getting home” she said taking a few steps away from him “I hope to see you again soon Gaara.”
“You know how you said that when the one you love leaves you feel as if a part of you is missing?” Gaara said, causing Ayumi to pause and turn to look at him.
“Yes” she answered.
“That’s how I feel when you leave” he confessed “When you’re around it’s like a light is shining through me but when you leave you take that light and I’m left alone in the dark.”
Ayumi remained silent, allowing his words to sink in. Gaara stood up as well and walked over to her, placing a gentle hand on her cheek to cup her face.
“Please don’t leave me alone in the dark” Gaara said, his voice almost pleading “I don’t know how to love or what it feels like but I will learn for you.”
Without even thinking Ayumi closed the space between her and Gaara, pressing her lips gently into his. Gaara was stiff for a moment taking a brief moment of hesitation before beginning to kiss her back. When they broke apart Ayumi smiled up at him and then wrapped her arms tightly around him.
“You are my desert flower” Gaara stated wrapping his arms around her in return.
“I love you Gaara” Ayumi confessed “And I’ll teach you how to love and maybe one day you’ll love me too.”
