An iPhone 5c. Pink. With a black and white polka dot case with a sparkly black bow on it. Omg, this cannot be happening. A phone. And not just any phone, an iPhone. The newest one!! In one of my favorite colors!! I'd never had anything like it. No phone, no iPod touch, no kindle, only an iPod shuffle. No phone until highschool. No phone, no phone. And yet, here it is. An iPhone 5c. I'm almost in 8th grade. Omg this is soo awesome!!
My mom sets some rules, of course, but I don't mind. I actually have the phone of my dreams!! No way am I going to blow it by complaining.
"I won't check your accounts, but I'll go through your phone once a week just to see what apps you have." Mom says. "No texting after 10:30pm or before 6:00am. I won't check your messages either. Ask me if you want to get a big social media app, like Instagram or Facebook. You're old enough for that now that you're 13, but still. Deal?" Mom asks.
"Deal!!" I say eagerly. Now, not only do I have a phone, (iPhone!!) she's also not being über strict about it like I thought she would!! This has got to be one of the best days of my life!!
Later that night, I'm in pajamas and sitting on the cushion in my window seat, playing with my iPhone. I haven't downloaded any apps yet. I flip through the AppStore. I've already asked my mom for Instagram, and she said yes!! So I type that in and download it. Then I download Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Vine, Kik, Tumblr, and We Heart It.
Did I mention that I'm soo happy? Because I am!!
Then I gently pull the black and white case from the package and put it on my phone, then plug the phone in, turn out the light, and slip under the covers.
The next morning, I'm up early, even though it's summer. I take a shower and dress in light pink shorts and a white&navy chevron half sleeve top. I comb my hair and push it back with a white fabric headband.
Then, I turn on my phone. I'm still shocked that I even have it!! I make accounts for everything I downloaded last night. I explore Instagram, and find people just like me!! People who cut, people who have disorders and depression, people with encouraging posts. I follow them, and leave comments on their pages. I'm soo excited!! I can't believe it!! I also find out that a photo editor called BeFunky that I downloaded has accounts!! Not just old-lady accounts with pictures of their cats, but teenagers like me, who cut and give help!! I think it will really help me, more then therapy.
Distracted, excited, and eager, I barely hear the sound that will change my life forever. The sound of sirens.
