The sleepover was awesome!! We ordered Pizza Hut, and after that we had popcorn and watched a funny romance movie, The Princess Bride. Then we stayed up late, talking about almost everything, like we'd been friends for more than just a day.
***********
Two days later...
Tomorrow is Halloween!! Sophie and some of my other friends are going trick or treating!! It's going to be soo fun!! As I hurry toward the steps, thinking about it, I stumble, and crash down the stairs. I scream. Maggie hurries toward me.
"Are you okay?!" She asks, worried.
I shrug, and try to stand up. I can, but my right leg hurts like hell and I can't walk. Yikes!
"Uh-oh. We better get you to the hospital!" Maggie says. John, about to leave for work, picks me up and takes me to the car.
An hour later, I'm in the hospital and they've done X-rays.
"You have a fractured leg." The doctor informs me. "You'll need a cast, and crutches. I'll work out the details with your parent- er, guardian, I'll be right back." She says.
"Okay." I say. Noo!! My Halloween is ruined, and I have to hobble around on crutches for who-knows-how-long!!
Another 15 minutes later, Dr Marie is showing me samples for all the colors I can get for my cast. I think it over a minute, then choose light pink. They put the cast on me, which takes about 15 minutes, and then she measures me for crutches. I get a medium sized pair, and before I know it, I'm home.
Dr Marie said they'd take it off in a month, and it should be healed by then. A month!
The next day, I wear a black mini skirt (no skinny jeans with the cast) and a a comfortable white long sleeve top with lots of silvery, spiky necklaces. I wear shimmery eyeshadow, hot pink lipstick, and my blonde hair in a French braid. I wear 1 spiky black combat boot, which feels weird but obviously no shoes over the cast. Then I throw my backpack over my shoulder, stuff my phone in my pocket, grab my crutches, and carefully make my way down the stairs.
I arrive at school, and as I use my crutches to get down the hall, I feel people staring at me. I walk into the classroom, and the same thing. Some guy asks if I jumped off a cliff, but I roll my eyes and sit down, leaning my crutches against a wall. I wish I could.
"What happened?" Kimmy, one of my friends, asks.
"Fell down the stairs." I reply.
"Ooh that's a bummer." She says, but I'm only half listening. I'm looking at the guy who said the dumb cliff joke. He's actually really cute, with shaggy light brown hair, baby blue eyes, and a light blue polo shirt that draws out the color in his eyes.
I can't stop thinking about him all day until, after the final bell, a much less cute boy grabs my crutches and hobbles around the room with them.
"Ooh, look at me, I'm injured!" He shrieks in a mimic girl voice. People start to laugh, and I feel my face turn pink. When I see Sophia giggling a little, my face changes from pink to red and I say "Give them back!" Not a good move.
"Give them back!" He shrieks, and everyone laughs. I see Kimmy move forward and grab them. She gives them to me and I go as fast as I can with crutches all the way to my locker, where I hurriedly put my stuff away, then I go to the entrance and hop on the bus.
I feel a tap on my shoulder. Kimmy.
"Don't be embarrassed." She says. "He does dumb stuff like that all the time. He's just immature." She comforts me. I feel a little better, but still embarrassed.
At home, I tell Maggie about it, and she comforts me too.
"Tomorrow's Saturday!" She informs me. "Let's do a girls day out, just me, you, and Kimmy!" She offers. That gets me feeling better.
"Okay!! I'd love that!!" I say happily.
