Tears in Your Eyes
Part VII
A cab stopped at a small bungalow house. The people walking on their way to wherever they were about to go slow down to see who had just arrived. The driver came out first and opened the compartment, one by one bringing out the luggage. Pushing the gate open, he dragged the luggage inside and put it down at the doorstep of the house.
The people continued on their way, some still had their eyes on the person inside the car, some couldn’t care less.
The woman finally came out with a child in her arms. The child was about four to five years old, sleeping at the moment. She left the door open afraid to wake the little boy in her arms.
She continued on her way to the house and gave the driver money for the ride and an extra tip. It’s been a long ride and she’s really thankful that he still drove her to Busan.
Busan.
This is where she was born.
Although it holds painful memories, it also holds the happiest ones with her family. But her family is long gone.
They are all dead.
Their lives robbed away from them and since she’s still a little girl when it happened, she couldn’t do a thing to help but hide under her bed.
She fished the keys out of her pocket and opened the door with just a turn. The couple said that a friend already asked someone to prepare the house ahead of time.
Another doctor in Busan who had just graduated last year but was absorbed by the hospital he worked as an intern in. There, Dr. Choi’s friend met him as his mentor and worked alongside him. He was the one who called and asked a favor, using his power as his sunbae to the young doctor.
True enough, the house is squeaky clean. The curtains freshly changed. She looked for the room to put the kid down. There were only three rooms, a kitchen full with equipments and utensils she’d need and living room.
She pushed open the first door and found out it’s the bathroom. The second door is a spacious room but it seems like it wasn’t made yet. The bed doesn’t have covers yet. No pillows. No curtains, it’s as bare as a newborn baby.
So she moved towards the last room. There the room is fully furnished with vanity table and mirror, comfortable-looking bed with comforter for the cold days. She lay the child down and put pillows on the either side of him. Just a precaution. He might fall if she will not put one.
After tucking the kid in, she inspected the new room, noticing a door opposite the bed. She curiously took a peek and found out it’s bathroom as well. Good thing! I don’t have to go out of the room at night to pee. Very convenient.
Though the house is small compared to the quarters they have back in Seoul, she’s already loving it.
She heard the front door creak open and immediately tensed, her body alert, ready for anyone who trespassed inside the house.
Is it the Tombstone? How did they find me so fast? If not… was it the assassins after the kid?
Her mind working on a plan, determined to protect the little boy who is still snoring softly.
She held her breath, not wanting to let the trespasser know their location. She tiptoed her way to the side of the door, holding the only weapon she found from the bathroom: toilet pump. She held the pump with one hand and stood still.
That person doesn’t even bother to be quiet!
She can hear the noisy footfalls of the person’s boots and a few more ‘blag’ here and there.
She cautiously turned the knob and peeked only to see that’s a guy, not that taller than her, wearing a leather black jacket and a faded denim jeans. She saw him moved her luggage near the wall beside the sofa. She pushed the door close again, earning a soft click sound. She prayed that the guy didn’t hear her and just go get her luggage. It’s okay, she can buy new clothes and stuffs anyways.
She rather be it a burglar than the ones they ran away from.
Luck wasn’t really on her side for she could already hear the man’s approaching steps nearing her room.
She’s not afraid. She is not afraid of anyone. But she’s afraid for the boy’s life.
So whoever this is, she has to silence him.
The door slowly opened and the man stepped inside the room seeing the sleeping child.
“Now, now… why in the world did your--- ouch! Ouch!” The woman started attacking the guy standing at the foot of the bed. The guy stopped her by holding her right hand, but she kicked his shins in return. “Oooowwwwwww! WHAT THE HELL??!!!!”
She was caught off guard by his reaction. Surely, if he is an assassin, she would have been battling him with all her might but the guy was just crouching down on the floor, holding his precious… errr… it.
“Who are you?” she asked firmly, holding her chin up high.
“Who am I????!!” he roared in anger. Sandara took one step backwards. “I am just the one who brought your luggage inside when you just left it outside! I am just the one who cleaned all crooks and corners of this house! Why the hell did you attack me?!”
Sandara was just staring at his enraged expression and fighting a giggle coming out of her.
“Do you think this is funny???!!!”
“S-sorry.” She started, still holding in her laughter. “But I thought you are a burglar and Appa and Eomma told us to be careful.”
The guy slowly got up from the floor and sat on the bed. She’s amazed that even after the ruckus that they had done, Leo is still asleep. He surely sleeps like a log.
“I really am sorry… What do you want me to do?” Sandara asked. She really wanted to make it up to him.
The guy shrugged, “I don’t know. Just don’t do that again! Seriously!”
“No, I won’t do it again but please tell me what you want, I have to make it up for hurting you.” She blushed at the thought of what she had hurt.
“Fine. I’d just tell you when I already want something from you.”
“Okay.”
They stood awkwardly in the room, neither speaking. Onix would've had a blast laughing at her situation right now.
The guy coughed, "So this kid must be Leo?"
"Yes," she sat on the bed and arrange the big pillows around the sleeping child.
"I see. And you?"
Dara looked at him, "You know me."
The guy looked surprised. "I do? I don't remember meeting you..."
"You know my brother's name, surely you know mine too?"
"Ahhhh."
Dara smirked.
He smiled sheepishly at her. "Yes, Dae Ra."
She got up and initiated a handshake. "...and I think it isn't fair that you know us but we don't know you. Care to introduce yourself?"
The guy took her hand firmly in his, "Ji Yong. Kwon Ji Yong, at your service."
