My mouth ran dry. I scurried back until my back bounced against the wall.
"What-what's going on..." I stuttered, my voice fading away.
Hudson's face drooped as he put down his food. He walked over to me, leaving me cornered. Panic rose in my throat as he stretched out an arm to me. I tried to bat him away.
To my surprise, he backed away.
"It's okay," he said, his tone soft. "Would you like to sit down?"
His calmness confused me, but I cautiously accepted his offer. He guided me over to a chair.
"What's going on?" I tried again. He placed a hand carefully on my shoulder. I let it stay there.
"You must not remember. You hit your head."
What?
"The doctors said your memory would be impacted. They told me that you might have trouble figuring out what's real and not real."
My memory? I looked around.
"Am I, back in Science?"
A silent laugh escaped his lips. "Yes, you're in Science. What do you mean by back?"
I furrowed my brow. "Why? I need to go back to Law & Protection."
He pouted. "You've never been there Sine."
Yes I have. My voice grew stronger and louder as I denied it.
His reaction was only a sympathetic pat.
"I know this is all very confusing. Let me get you something to eat."
He sauntered away to the kitchen area.
I took his absence as an opportunity to figure out what was happening. Beside me was a coffee table, adorned with a photo frame. Picking it up, I recognised it was of Hudson and I. We were both smiling , standing close to each other. He was dressed in a formal suit while I wore a white dress.
Returning, Hudson smiled gently.
"That was our wedding day."
Wedding? My eyes widened.
Placing the bowl on my lap, he encouraged, "Try remember it. Just think really hard."
Did that really happen?
My certainty was dwindling. If I can't remember, it can't have happened.
Squinting my eyes, I tried to focus my mind. I stared hard at the picture, waiting for a glimmer of remembrance.
A hazy picture jumped in front of me. A large party of people mingled around me while various voices floated through the air.
"Picture of the happy couple?" Someone asked before there was a flash of white. My eyes blinked away the aftermath it left.
"You alright?" Hudson breathed in my ear. I nodded, a grin forming on my mouth. His expression mimicked mine.
"This is the happiest day of my life," he chirped, his eyes bright.
A strange feeling flew around my stomach.
"It's mine too," my voice responded.
I came back to the room, my head spinning.
"Remember?" Hudson questioned. I paused before nodding slowly.
