"Sine."
Her hands clung onto me and she forced me back into the shadows of the room.
"Dee," I said in a gasp.
Her eyes searched every part of me before returning to mine. "I thought you were dead."
Suddenly, I crumbled. Tears streamed rapidly down my face as she pulled me towards her. Her hand rested on the back of my head, her fingers tangling in my hair.
"I thought you were dead," she repeated, her voice beginning to wobble. She leaned away from me, her eyes now glossy.
"What happened? You look awful."
Memories of my entrapment flashed in front me. They spurred on more tears.
Gulping, I readied myself to speak. "We stormed the building, six of us. We tried to turn off the power, make them weak. But they, killed Tate. Beth ran off. We had to split up. They got us. They were too strong. They kept us captive, doing horrible things."
I wiped my eyes. "They thought they had destroyed my memories of before. But I remember. I remember everything."
I gripped onto her. "Hudson, he helped me find files on the others. They're alive Dee. I need to find them."
Sucking in a breath, she nodded. Her gaze switched to the vans.
"I'm getting you out of here. I wasn't ready to help you before. But after all of this..."
Hope burned in my chest. But a different thought niggled away at me.
My face hardened. "I can't, not yet. This place is a hub for information. I can't leave until I have everything."
Dee's jaw tightened. She didn't argue with me. She rested her palm against my cheek.
"I'll be here the same time this day next week. I'll organise a way out for you then."
I nodded in agreement as tingles of excitement burst inside of me. This is it! My way out.
Silently, Dee spun on her heel and hurried back to her work without another glance.
I turned and darted back down the corridor to my quarters. My footsteps stayed soft as I entered the bedroom and crept into the bed. I flipped over to watch Hudson and his breathing. His shoulders were taunt, his breaths coming quicker than before. He let out a quiet sigh before shifting around. My stomach clenched. The sigh sounded like as if he was awake. I froze, my head barely touching off the pillow. He knows.
