Juliet's POV

It had been a few weeks since that argument, and things were still a little tense between us. Kelly stopped visiting me during her lunch breaks, and she stopped coming over to my apartment. I didn't know why she was keeping her distance. Our fight hadn't even been that bad. I tried texting her, but she would answer several hours later and her answers were always impersonal, one word messages.

Additionally, I was swamped at work. There was a new case that almost my entire department was working on. It involved a famous CEO's not so legal actions during a huge merger. This case was all over the media, trending on everything from Forbes to Twitter to the New Yorker. That put even more pressure on us.

I wasn't coming home until close to 10 PM every night so I didn't have the time or energy to go visit her and make amends. But I missed her. I missed coming home to find her fast asleep on my bed. I missed waking up next to her, smelling her strong perfume. I missed the way she would hold me in her arms when we slept. I missed the way she would look at me, the pure love that filled her eyes. I was falling for her. At just the perfect time, too. I was falling for her, but she seemed to want nothing to do with me.

After the hype surrounding the case began to die down, I was finally able to take a Sunday off. I slept in a little bit, just to catch up on some sleep, and then I took an uber uptown.

I had been to Kelly's apartment only a few times before. Most of the time, when we hung out, we hung out at my place. It was nicer. It was bigger. And at Kelly's apartment, there were just so many things I wasn't allowed to touch.

"Ooh what's this book. Is it a diary?"

"Don't touch that."

"What's in this drawer."

"Step away from the drawer."

"Is that a textbook? Twenty First Century Global Journalism. Oh man, sounds like a snoozer."

"Jules, put that down!"

I was surprised that remembered her apartment number, considering I'd never really gone without her with me. Nonetheless, I made it to her front door. I just stood there in front of the door for five minutes, trying to figure of what I was going to say. Finally, I knocked, and it seemed like an eternity passed before she answered.

"Hey," she smiled weakly. I could see confusion over why I was here in her face.

"I missed you." I stood still, twiddling my fingers. I didn't know why I was so nervous. This was my girlfriend. I knew that we hadn't really seen each other for a few weeks, but still, it shouldn't have been this awkward. I had literally kissed every inch of this woman's naked body before. And she had kissed every inch of mine. Yet here we were, acting like complete strangers.

"Yeah..." her voice trailed off. She was wearing a simple tie-dye t-shirt that exposed her midriff and boxer shorts. Her hair was messy and uncombed. She just woke up.

I took a deep breath to ease my nerves. "Can I come in?"

"Yeah!" She ushered me inside, and quickly left to go to the bathroom. "Hold on, I need to brush my teeth. I don't want to kiss you with bad breath."

I laughed. At least she was planning on kissing me. That was a start.

As soon as she exited the bathroom, she ran up to me, grabbed my shirt, and pulled me close to her. She breathed in my face. "Minty fresh, right?"

"Hmm is that spearmint or peppermint?"

"Shut up."

She didn't need to tell me that because she shut me up with her lips which she pressed into mine. I felt her tongue lick my lips, begging my mouth for entrance so I obliged. Pushing me against her wall, she had one hand tugging on my hair and the other hand groping my ass. I moaned as she paused the kissing to take off my shirt, staring at me hungrily.
