*Start of Eclipse*
Dawn's POV
*One Month Later*
Okay, confession time, It has been a really long month. I didn't think it would be so hard being away from Sam. I swear sometimes I feel like the living dead. I know Sam feels the same way 'cause his voice sound so depressed when we get a chance to talk. So the once in the morning and then once before bed thing kind of didn't work. Apparently, the situation in Forks was dire because Sam was always on Patrol. Whenever I called I always got Emily on his phone or I left a message for him. On the days I talked to Emily she told me that Sam wasn't doing much better. She said he was acting like he was when I was in the hospital. I scolded him a couple of times but all he did was chuckle and tell me that he was going to eat a meal once we hung up.
"Sweetie, what's wrong? I haven't seen you this way since your dad left," Mom asked from her hospital bed.
"It's probably stupid but I miss him," I answered.
"I know the feeling. I was the same way after your father left. I promise you it gets better."
"I know it will mom."
"Good. So I was thinking, you should go see Bella. Charlie called and said that the two of you left things in a pretty bad place-"
"Mom, I love you, but this can't just be fixed with a few pretty words and petty promises. We have to work at it and lately, she hasn't been in the mood. I also talked to Charlie and he told me that she is obsessed with Edward and Sam's told me that she is ignoring Jacob. I don't know if I can be friends with her after she threw her friends aside for a boy."
"I understand honey but all that tells me is that she needs a friend like you to see the harm she is causing. I took the liberty of booking a flight for you to Forks and Charlie said that he would pick you up from the airport. Besides you could surprise Sam."
"Thanks, mom." I gave her a quick kiss on the forehead before heading home.
*Four hours later in Forks*
I arrived at the airport and Charlie was waiting for me. A strange sense of Deja vu washed over me. Charlie healed me load my two bags into his cruiser before driving to his house.
"Ya know Bell's missed you," Charlie said trying to ease the tension.
"I know that you want to hear that I'm here to fight for her and make her see what she is doing but I don't know if I am the person to do that. What she needs and what I can give her are two different things. I'm sorry, Charlie."
"All I ask is that you try."
"I will." The last ten minutes to the drive were silent, not an uncomfortable silent but a peaceful one. My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out. Sam was calling me.
"Hi," I answered.
"You have no idea how good it is to hear your voice," He said.
"I think I have a pretty good idea. What have you been doing all day?"
"Patrol. Emily just made dinner and I promise that I am having some."
"Good."
"How's your day been?"
"Pretty good. Mom's been making some very good progress, much more than the doctors thought possible for only being a month later. I have a surprise for you. I sent it today and it should get there by tomorrow."
"What is it?"
"You'll just have to wait and see. I got to go, I'll talk to you soon."
"Talk to you soon, bye."
I whispered bye and opened the cruiser door after Charlie parked. I saw a familiar silver Volvo and judging by Charlie's scowl, it was a Cullen's car. I grabbed my bags and waited for Charlie to go in first to yell at his daughter. And he did, well it wasn't yelling per se but a loud voice. I walked in the door and saw Edward stiffen ever so slightly. Bella let out a small gasp but rushed to give me a hug. I gave her an awkward pat on the back before carrying my bags upstairs to unpack, giving the family a minute to clear the air.
A few minutes later I came back downstairs to see a pouting Bella and a smug Charlie. I decided not to mention the missing Edward and opted for asking what was for dinner. Bella grumbled and Charlie told me that we could go out at the dinner. I went to the kitchen and saw a few things that I could make. I got started on dinner and soon enough Bella stopped pouting and came to help me. We finished in a matter of minutes and suffered through an awkwardly quiet dinner.
"So, why are you back?" Bella asked.
"Charlie asked me to come back. Tell me this, why did you take him back? After all, he's done, why?" I asked in return.
"The same reason you took Sam back. Tell me does he know that you're back?"
"He will tomorrow morning. This isn't about me, it's about you and what you are putting your family through. Charlie is worried sick about you. First, you delve into a deep depression where you call out in your sleep, then you flee to Italy leaving only a note, and now this. Taking him back without so much as an explanation. Do you know why he left?"
"He left to protect me."
"How do you know that? How can you possibly know that?"
"Because he loves me."
"You really are delusional. What happened to the girl that hated boys? Where is the girl that once swore to me that she would never even look at a boy in any way other than a classmate? Where did she go? 'Cause she's not sitting in front of me."
I took my dishes to the kitchen and cleaned them. After I cleaned all of the dishes I went up to the room Charlie set up for me. I didn't bother unpacking knowing that I would stay with Sam for the duration of my trip.
*Dream*
"Sam!" I called from the living room.
"Yeah, baby," Sam called back walking into the room.
"Where did you put the Christmas decorations?"
"I put them in the attic."
"Will you go get them? Emily and the girls will be here any minute and I want to get the tree started."
"Okay, I'll be right back. Don't forget, I've got patrol in a few minutes."
"Do you have to go? It's the week before Christmas."
"Yeah, besides then you and the girls have the house all to yourselves."
"Fine, just be careful."
"Always am."
I walked upstairs and went into our little boy's room. His crib was replaced with a big boy bed as he called it.
"Wake up sweetie. Dad's about ready to go," I whispered shaking his little body.
"Otay momma," His sleepy voice replied, getting out of bed and walking downstairs to see his father.
"Hey, little man. I want you to be good for Momma okay? She's going to need your help decorating the tree, can you do that?" Sam asked crouching down to wrap our son in his arms
"I do that, I big boy," Our son cheerfully replied.
"Okay but first breakfast. I made your favorite and It's sitting on the table so go eat." I said and little feet ran to the dining room. "I love you, you know that right?"
"Just so long as you know that I love you more."
"Not possible. You better get going before you're late. I love you."
"I love you too."
