Chapter: 6

***********

Tord's POV

I'm in a dark alley, a puddle of red slowly seeping from under me, when I hear a shout to my left. I don't turn my head to see who it is, just stare down at my right arm, etched with red lines, now resembling my left arm fairly well.

The knife is still in my possession, but I can't feel it in the palm of my frozen hand. I keep seeing it clenched between my fingers, glinting in the moonlight, but I can't feel its shape, the weight of its form. A silent, voiceless tear trails down my cheek, and I feel that; its burning contour, the weight of this small droplet on my skin.

The voice that's been echoing through the alley gets closer, never seizing, but still I keep my head bent, eyes on the floor.

"Hey, sunshine lollipops, look at me!"

I close my eyes.

"Hey, say something."

I shut my mouth.

I can feel him close to me, now.

I stay still, motionless. I just want him to leave.

He finally hits me across the cheek with the back of his hand, boney knuckles running along my tender skin. It numbs the only part of my body I could feel up until now, and more tears flow in its wake.

"Tord!" His hand makes it to my shoulder, and it's cold. I try to shake him off.

I incline my head even more. "Just...just don't touch me!" He jumps, removes his hand. I forget my dignity and look up at him, sorry for surprising him like that. Therefore, I expose my face. Without a hood to hide it, there's nothing I can do.

He jumps back farther, staring at the wound that covers the left part of my body from my head to my hips. But I don't give him enough time to see its depth; I turn away and kick him off balance with the leg that's closest to him. He stumbles back, but gets back up, worriedly coming closer.

"Get away from me, Tom," I scream so loud that everyone back at Eddsworld can probably hear me.

His eyes catch on the knife and I wish so deeply that he were not here.

That

he'd

just

disappear.

"What? Wha...Tord? How could you?" A speechless Tom crouches beside me, takes the bloody weapon from my hands and throws it somewhere my limited peripheral vision doesn't allow me to see.

"I...I won't look at you, I just wanna know why."

"Just leave me alone, Tom."

I feel his anxiousness. He feels awkward, awkward because of me. I don't know why, I think, but that won't be good enough for Tom, so I keep quiet.

"This is a dream, Tord," he reassures me.

No, you're wrong, it's not. I know because I've been having these dreams for a while now. Ever since I left Eddsworld.

It's not a dream because dreams don't exist. Only reality exists, and therefore the term 'dream' is only referring to reality that happens when you sleep.

But I'm not ready to explain that to him.

He won't understand anything.

"Is that," he points to my right arm, "what you did?"

No, it's not. That's something else.

I whisper this thought and he hears.

"Okay, then, that," he says, pointing to the fresh infliction on my left arm. I nod.

He sidles up real close and takes my bleeding limb in his cold one. Despite his frozen touch, I can feel the heat it hides. When our skin touches, we both feel a bolt of energy.

I may be blushing.

"Hey, you know yesterday when you told me to control my outbreaks?"

I nod.

"I thought you, too, knew how to do the same. You said it yourself."

I nod.

"So, why can't you stop?"

My shoulders rise and fall with an 'I don't know.'

My arm against his makes me forget the situation.

Tom's POV

I can't believe what I'm seeing when I look at his arm in my hold.

"Hey, you know, this is where I  transformed into the-"

"Monster," Tord finishes.

"Yeah. But you got me out of here. So I'm gonna help you." I blush a little, but it's certainly too dark for him to see, anyway.

"I said go away."

His plea is not enough, and he knows that.

I stare down at his ripped shirt, grey and smeared with blood. Letting go of his hand, I slide off my own hoodie and have it secured onto his form in no time. He quickly lifts up the hood to hide his face and I only see the glint of his eyes, red in the presence of darkness and the moon.
