Night came. Emir was reading a book in his room, sitting at an armchair by the window. He hadn't talked with Zeynep after their fight this evening, there was nothing to say anyway.
Zeynep was reading a magazine in her own room. She was turning the pages angrily since she was full of nerves with Emir. His behavior annoyed her to no end today.
After a while, she stood up to go get a glass of water and check on Poyraz. The helpers weren't in the kitchen as it was late, so she was alone. Her stomach grumbled a bit and she decided to browse for food in the fridge. She found some leftovers from this afternoon and took out the pots. When she sat down on the table and got the first spoonful of the soup, the power shut down abruptly.
"Ah!" She yelled, placing her palm on her chest. It was pure dark, she couldn't see anything around. She had also forgotten her phone at the room and she didn't have a flashlight. What would she do now? She couldn't see anything. She would have to go back to the living room by touching around. She couldn't call Emir and woke Poyraz.
"Uff!" She sighed, taking some hesitant steps on her front. She was touching the furniture like a blind person would, she couldn't even see her nose. Supposedly, she reached the central corridor, walking ahead. Emir bumped onto her, holding his phone in his hand.
"You scared me!" Zeynep told him, taking fast breaths.
"Where have you been? I looked upstairs and you weren't!" He held her arm, dragging her along. "It's a simple power off, go to your room."
"Don't drag me like a ragdoll! Ouch!" She took her arm back, rubbing it.
"You won't be able to see on your own, come." He held her again, guiding her upstairs.
"Poyraz? Let me at least stay with him, he will get scared if he wakes..."
"Get in, I'll bring blankets." He pushed her inside Poyraz's room and left.
"What blan-, alright. Why does it have to be so dark..." She talked to herself in a low voice. She touched the crib with her tips. Even though she couldn't see her son she kneeled by his side.
"Zeynep." Emir came, handing her some blankets. "Lay them on the floor." He ordered her, whispering.
"I'm not your maid." She snapped, whispering back.
"Don't annoy me." He lighted his face with the phone, puckering his lips.
She obeyed, laying the blankets carefully by the crib.
"Light on Poyraz a bit." She asked him, waiting to take a peek at her son. He was sleeping peacefully, not moving an inch.
"Lay down here. I'll go to my room." He announced.
"Excuse me?! You will leave me alone here? I can't see."
"I'll bring you your phone, wait."
Zeynep held his hand before he went out of the room. "Stay here."
"Are you afraid of the dark, little one?" He turned his head to the side, trying to hide a smile.
"Stop the nonsense." She scoffed, relaxing her hold on him.
"Okay then, goodnight."
"No, no, no!" She grabbed him again, shouting in a low voice form. "I am scared, yes."
Emir sighed heavily, rolling his eyes. "Get down." He helped her sit on the blanket. Sitting next to her, he placed his head down, laying back.
She followed his moves, laying by his side quietly. "Thank you... I bet you haven't slept on the floor before."
"I didn't have the honor. We always had beds in my home." His voice was full of sarcasm.
"There's a first time for everything, you won't die." Zeynep commented, smiling a bit.
He didn't reply, but she could hear his rhythmic breaths coming out of his chest. Who knows what he was thinking.
"I can't imagine how my life would be if I haven't met you, you know..." She suddenly blurted. "Right now, I cannot even imagine not having Poyraz."
Again he didn't reply, he just tapped his fingers on his chest.
She moved closer, placing her arm over his stomach. He stiffened for seconds, then let himself relax. Although his hands stayed glued to his sides, Zeynep didn't mind. She even layed her head to his chest, enjoying this moment.
"What is this? Am I a teddy bear or what?" He finally spoke, moving a bit. He wasn't used to be like this with someone, it was surreal to him. After sex yes, it always happened but not just like this.
"You're my love." She stated, sniffing his neck. She always loved inhaling his manly scent.
Emir cracked a smile. Thankfully, she couldn't see it.
"There we go again... Emir is Zeynep's bread." His voice came out light and cheerful. "I thought you hate me."
"You know I can't hate you..." She trailed, hugging him closer. "I will die without you." She raised her face to his even though she could hardly distinguish it.
"Blah, blah, blah... Sleep." He placed his hand behind her head, letting her lay on his chest again. He enjoyed hearing her talk like this to him, it was pleasant to know her actual feelings.
"I'm cold." She told him a few minutes later, rubbing her own arm.
"I can't control the temperature." He scoffed, reaching to tuck her in the blanket he had by his side. "Okay now?"
"Okay..." He felt her head nodding into his chest. It was not long after that they fell asleep like this.

In the early morning, Poyraz's cries filled the room. Emir opened his eyes and stood up instantly, not wanting to disrupt Zeynep's sleep. She was with her back on him, facing the wall. The power has gotten back on at some point.
"Shhhh, come here... Are you hungry? Let's go." He took him downstairs, where the helper Koca was already awake.
"Sir?" She ran to him, ready to take the baby.
"Careful, careful." He instructed her, moving back. "Prepare his milk, I will feed him."
"Of course." She walked back to the kitchen, leaving them alone in the living room.
"You will drink bottled milk since your mom is sleeping. You don't mind, right?" The baby slowly blinked his eyes, licking his lips.
"Of course you don't, you are just hungry." He smiled, kissing his son's head.
"Here." The helper handed him the bottle.
Emir started feeding Poyraz like a pro, it was funny to watch. He knew exactly the angles, he even turned the bottle around in order for Poyraz to not fall asleep.
"Well done, Poyraz! Well done!" He widened his eyes, seeing the empty bottle. "You are gonna be a big boy, right? That's the spirit." He placed the baby over his shoulder, rubbing his back with circling moves.
"Emir..." Zeynep got close to them, letting out a yawn. "Did he eat?"
"He did. Go back to sleep if you want." He kept his look at her for seconds before lowering his head.
"No, I am fine..." She yawned again.
"Stop yawning, go to sleep." Emir rolled his eyes at her, hearing Poyraz burb at the same moment. "I'll change his diaper and put him in his crib."
"Uff, okay." She stood up, leaving a kiss on her son's hand before heading upstairs.

When he finished with Poyraz, he went back down to check his messages. He saw he had 25 missed calls and ten messages. All from his man, Mehmet.
"What the hell." He thought, pressing the call button.
"Mr Emir."
"Why did you call me a thousand times?!"
"I thought you already know by now..."
"Know what?"
"Not even Mrs Zeynep?"
"What Mehmet, WHAT?"
"Kemal Soydere."
"What about him?"
"He was in a car accident with Mrs Nihan."
"What accident? Are they injured?"
"They are dead, sir."
Emir's phone fell off his hand. His eyes stayed glued on his front as his mouth was slightly opened out of shock. No, this can't be.
"Nihan..." He stuttered, walking slowly forward.
"No, no, no..." He smiled pitifully, looking around in dispair. Nihan was a part of his life for many years, a friend, a wife, even it was just pretend. Nihan gave him someone to hold on to when he had no one. When he was all alone, craving for a loving embrace after his mother left him. She was the one who brought him face to face with his biggest enemy.
Right then, his mind came to its right place when he thought about Kemal being dead. Zeynep.
"Zeynep." He placed his palm over his mouth. How would he tell her this? She was literally upstairs sleeping peacefully, how could he ruin her life like this in seconds?
He was used of his life being in ruins but Zeynep... If she found out, she would be devastated. No matter what, she loved her brother to death.
He had a hard choice to make.
Each of them two, were dearly for them for different reasons. But it didn't change the reality, Nihan and Kemal were dead.
Did he want Nihan dead? Absolutely no, never. She was like sacred to him.
Did he want Kemal dead? Absolutely yes, he would be happy. The weirdest thing was that he was far from happy right now. And he hated it.
"God damn it." Emir kicked the sofa, a few tears running down his cheeks.
