"It would be a public service!"

"It's illegal!"

"Only if you're caught."

"Oh Merlin. Madison, you have been around the twins for too long. Now for the last time, you can't murder your professor!"

"Why not?!"

"It's illegal!"

"Ugh. Fine Mom. I won't murder Umbitch," Madison relented, causing Cedric to relax in his chair.

"Good," he said with a smug smirk. He propped his legs up on a little ottoman. "So tell me, what exactly did this woman make you do?"

"Write lines," Madison said, rubbing the back of her covered hand.

"Now that doesn't sound so bad," Cedric responded. "What did you have to write?"

" 'I must not cause trouble.' " She felt the back of her hand sting as she spoke, the ridiculous line mocking her.

"Wow. If she thought what happened in class was trouble, she would have had an aneurysm over your other antics with the twins," Cedric said.

"She knows about all of that."

"How?"

"Records. She went back on all of last year's disciplinary records."

"But why?"

****

"I have to say it's a good thing I took action when I did," Umbridge said upon her arrival, "I have been examining your file and it shows you have an extensive list of disciplinary issues. You have caused quite a bit of trouble over the past year."

Madison didn't say anything in response or refute. She knew she had pulled plenty of pranks with the twins. She hadn't expected them to go unnoticed and unrecorded, but she didn't understand why this woman had decided to go through it.

"Now it goes to show you've been making trouble for some time now," Umbridge continued, "I believe that in these detentions, I can snuff out that rebellious streak. These detentions can help to shape you." Umbridge seemed to genuinely believe that she can just take away every ember of the fire within Madison that fuels her. The fire that drives her to stand up for everything she believes and tells her to have fun and let loose. The fire that keeps her alive.

"Now you will be writing lines for me this evening," Umbridge said handing Madison a piece of parchment. Madison reached in her bag to grab a quill. "Oh no, not with your quill. You will be using a rather special one of mine."

Umbridge handed Madison a quill and sat down at her desk.

"I need ink," Madison said, her voice quiet and neutral.

"You won't need any," Umbridge said, a grin fixed upon her face that made her stomach churn, "Now I want you to write, 'I must not cause trouble.'"

"How many times?" Madison asked.

"However many times it takes for the message to sink in."

Madison decided she would write it a few times to appease the woman. No more than twenty, but no less than ten. She put quill to paper and wrote: I must not cause trouble.

Madison gasped as a pain surged through her body, originating in her hand. She looked over to see the words etched in her skin before they quickly healed over. Her skin was red and irritated in the spot where the words had once been. She looked at the parchment to see her sentence written in red.
