Chapter 4: Attraction

❄Mab❄

"Paco, what the hell are you doing?"

"What's a ten letter word that starts with A and means a feeling of romantic interest?" He said blankly, he was working on a crossword puzzle. "Since when did you do crossword puzzles?" He glared at me, threatening to throw a hissy fit. "Since now" He said before going back to his crossword.

"So" I said, standing next to her awkwardly. "What are you doing?" I asked even though it was clear she was making mashed potatoes. I noticed the cuts on her hands and flinched. I wondered why no one ever noticed but then again she always wore or held some kind of jacket to cover them up. "Just mashing the potatoes with a fork" she said, idly brushing her hair aside. "Can I help?" I asked on impulse. She looked at me, surprised that I asked. "Sure, I'll turn on the stove" she said, moving to set the flame to low. I couldn't tell if she was blushing from the heat or because of me.

Paco raised an eyebrow at me. "What?" I asked, working on mashing the potatoes in the bowl. "Since when did you want to help people?" He spat. "Shut up" I said, finishing up with the potatoes and moving to hand them to Mikaila.

She was staring blankly at the pan she melted butter in with a sad look on her face. She usually had a very happy disposition so it worried me that she was sad. "You okay?" I asked, causing her to jump away, her face taking on a look of terror. "Hey, it's just me" I said, lowering the bowl of mushy potatoes. She was whimpering. "You're safe now, she's gone" I whispered, careful not to disturb her. I eased the mashed potatoes onto the pan and allowed her to calm down.

"Mab" she whispered reverently. My eyes widened and I had to blink a couple of times before I could respond. "Yeah?" I said, trying to look cool pouring some cream into the potatoes and adding salt.

"You ended up doing everything" she laughed a little an I smiled as I mixed the potatoes. "I don't mind. You're a good person" she blushed again. I've always loved pink, but the kind of pink that was on her face was adorable. "You are too" she whispered. We stared at each other for a while before I turned to give Paco the potatoes.

"The word you're looking for is Attraction"
