Chapter 5: Cause & Effect

❄ Mikaila ❄

After breakfast Paco went back to his room and we cleaned up before going to our rooms. I pulled a couple of books out of my bag. There were school books too and a letter from my brother. It was money for school. I sighed and pulled out a box full of cards. Before I could sift through them there was a knock at the door.

"Hey Mikaila, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to go out because I'm going to a shop to buy cards" I stuffed my card box, my card binder, and my wallet into a backpack and opened the door. "Give me a second to change" I smiled at him.

❄ Mab ❄

Five minutes later she came out wearing a pair of shorts and a dark red hoodie. It made me feel conscious about wearing jeans and a shirt. At least we were both wearing Converse. That are white. With stars. That are black. She threw her phone into her backpack and started walking. "Let's go" she said enthusiastically and I couldn't help but smile as we raced out of the house, almost running into my sister in the process.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU GOING?!" She screamed. "Out! Take care of Paco!" I yelled back, she slammed the door shut. I'm dead later, but watching Mikaila attempt to keep up with me I knew it was worth it. When we reached the card shop we were both tired and the cool air of the show was refreshing. Mikaila stuffed her hands into her hoodie. She looked cold. I wish I could hold her hand I thought absentmindedly.

"Mab! Great to see you!" Te clerk said. I never could remember his name. "Good to see you too, Mark" I greeted as Mikaila and I approached the counter. Thank God for name tags. "Who's your friend?" He asked, gesturing to Mikaila. "That's Mikaila. Mikaila, that's Mark" I introduced. "Isn't she the girl you kept talking about with CJ and the-" I glared at the clerk and he shut his mouth, laughing nervously. Mikaila looked down at the cards in the display case. "What can I do for you?" Mark asked. I hoped she wasn't bored because I don't really know if she'd like V-

"Do you have any Perfect Guards?" She asked.

... This girl is too perfect. She's unreal. I thought, staring at her. "You play Vanguard? That's awesome. What do you run?" The clerk asked and I wish I could have asked her that but I was still stuck from shock. "I run Oracle Think Tank. I know it sounds weak but my deck is pretty sweet. I run Battle Sisters" she explained. "Do you have a Break Ride?" He asked. "I have a couple of Hexagonal Magus cards" she smiled. "Sounds wicked. We don't have any PGs for OTT now but I'll put in an order for you. Battle Sister, Tsokolat?" She nodded enthusiastically and cheered. "Righteous. Your Blaster Darks are here. We have some Mordreds too if you're interested" he handed me a package. "No thanks, maybe next time" we both thanked him and left the shop.

"So you run Shadow Paladin and your sub-clan is Revengers?" I nodded at her. "Should I call you Ren-sama?" She grinned. And asdfghjkl I can't believe she's an Otaku I thought. "Should I call you Misakin?" I retorted. She gave me a sour look. "No, she switched to Genesis anyway" she shrugged. "She abandoned the Oracles" I teased, pretending to cry. She laughed and shoved me sideways.

It started to rain. "Uh oh" she hummed, pulling the good of her sweatshirt up. "Come on! We have to find some shade" I chuckled, pulling her into a small ice cream parlor. She got Vanilla and I got Strawberry. We compared cards and exchanged secrets until the rain stopped.

My parents scolded me, we all had dinner awkwardly. Afterwards we went to our rooms. I opened my computer and realized I had an unread message on Facebook. Mikaila.

Mikaila Mallenson: Thanks. I had a great say.

P. S. Follow me on Twitter :)

I laughed and shut my laptop off. And for the first time in a long time I slept early.

And woke up sick.
