Brightness. A white light, surrounded by highlights of a light blue and turquoise occupied her vision. For the first time in who knows how long, Arielle could see something over than blackness, darkness. It was inviting, welcoming, joyful and... distressing. Why? Why has she woken up. All she could remember was being pushed into the chamber she was currently occupying by her father, King Alfor, along with her sister. What year was it? Why was she here? What was going on? So many questions flooded her mind and her breathing quickened at an alarming pace. She felt her breath constricting, she needed to escape her chamber. Otherwise she would surely collapse. She could hear muffled voices, saying something about being asleep for ten thousand years. The thought seemed impossible, and only made her panic more.
Suddenly Arielle's pod opened, rippling upwards from the floor, up to her face. She tumbled out of the chamber, falling on the floor in a neat lump. Her breathing slowed, fresh air, finally. She looked up, noticing seven others in the room with her. Five were strange beings, possessing no markings and oddly shaped ears. However, the other two she recognised.
'Coran! Allura!' Arielle cried rushing into her older sister's arms, 'what's going on? Where's dad?' Allura held her sister closely, happy to have her kin with her, and relieved to see another Altean (minus Coran).
'Arielle! Oh it is good to see you!' Coran replies, she rushed over and hug him too, forgetting all about the others occupying the room. She hear a small cough and turn to see the other five... beings. The one who coughed took a step in her direction,
'Well hellllooooo there, I must ask, are you from Tennessee, because you're the only ten I see!' The person said. Arielle wrinkled her nose in confusion at his senseless comment,
'Ten.. tenasea?' She questioned in reply, cocking her head to one side.
'Lance, she's an alien, she doesn't know what Tennessee is.' Arielle turned to look at the person who spoke and found herself staring into a pair of beautiful hazel eyes. They seemed to swim with colours and reminded her of other Altean's eyes. For some reason this person's appearance comforted her, and made her feel as if she was at home. It was only when the man stood next to the person she was avidly staring at waved his hand infront of her face, was Arielle knocked out of her trance.
'Yoooohoooo! Hello? Guys I think she's dead!'
'She's not dead Hunk!' The man who had earlier been called Lance said.
'Well she looked it!'
While the two started squabbling, Arielle walked over to her sister, Coran and the one other whom she had not met yet. Allura noticed Arielle approaching and reached out her hand to her, which the latter accepted graciously.
'This is my younger sister, Arielle. Arielle, this is Shiro.'
'Nice to meet you, Sir,' she greeted the man named Shiro, holding out her hand towards the stranger. He looked at it and then looked back up at her, as if assessing the situation. Finally he took her outstretched hand and gave it a firm handshake,
'Nice to meet you too, Princess.' Arielle smiled at the title, it was normally Allura who was called princess, whilst she was just called by her name. It was nice and refreshing, she could certainly get used to this!
'Wait a second! You're her sister? I didn't even realise you were the same species,' Hunk said, mumbling the last part under his breath.
'Why ever not?' Allura replied, rather confused. Arielle had the Altean markings on her cheeks, although hers were currently blue in colour, to match her pale blue hair, instead of Allura's pink markings, and light purple hair. She also had the same elvish ears, which were common to the Altean people. The only thing that made Arielle stand out compared to Allura and Coran was-
'Well, I mean she's so short!' Lance exclaimed.
'I'm not that short!'
'Yes you are! You're smaller than Pidge, and he's tiny-omphhhh' Lance barely had time to finish his sentence when Pidge gave him a hard elbow to the stomach.
'I am not tiny!' He complained.
'And I may well be under average height for my species, but I could knock you out with the tip of my little finger. So watch what you say. Ok?' Arielle replied, stepping towards Lance with each word, voice dangerously low. She had been the butt of enough short jokes of Altea, she was not prepared for them to reappear now. Lance nodded sheepishly and Arielle smiled sweetly at him as she turned back around to face the others. As she was doing so, she caught a glimpse of Pidge's broad smirk and her cheeks flushed a light pink.
