Another long chapter, with a lot of dialog. I hope you enjoy it!

I decided to stop counting the days. It didn't matter anymore. I peaked through the curtains and saw the sun beginning to rise. It was beautiful. Theodore never said I couldn't look, just don't open the window. I sighed letting the curtains fall back into place. After Theodore slammed my door yesterday the only person who checked on me was Liz. She brought Nick into my room and we watched Cars together. He fell asleep on me and I dosed off as well. When I woke up, Nick was gone and there was a plate of food sitting on the small night stand.

I could hear a little bit of clingy coming through my door. It was probably whoever prepared breakfast in the mornings. I sat on the bed, wondering what today would bring. I was nervous about all these questions and answers I would be receiving later. What could be so bad that I needed time to rest before I was told?

A soft knock came through my door and I got up, praying it wasn't James. I opened the door and Jake was standing there, tiredness took over his face. He was holding Nick, who looked like he had been crying.

"Hey Jake, is everything okay?", I watched him.

He shook his head, "I need to go handle some business, but I can't bring Nick and James refuses to watch him. I hate to ask, but will you please take Nick to breakfast and look after him until I get done?", he looked at me with pleading eyes.

"Of course", I held my arms out and Jake handed me Nick. He instantly threw his tiny arms around my neck and hid his face.

"Thank you so much Cassidy", he said, then took off down the hallway. He didn't look like he got much sleep last night.

I felt bad for Jake. He seemed to be both mother and father to little Nick. It breaks my heart that James refuses to help him, knowing he's tired and busy. I walked over to my bed and set Nick down. He threw his arms back up and started to whine. I sighed, "Nick, why dont we watch some cartoons together?".

He turned towards the TV and I flipped through a few channels until some cartoon popped up. I got in bed beside him and he curled up next to me, his thumb in his mouth and eyes glued to the TV. Poor kid, losing his birth parents and adoptive parents. We sat here watching TV for a little over an hour until I herd a bell ding. That's when Nick shot up and screamed, "BREAKFAST!".

Oh, that's right. I said I would take him to breakfast. My nerves set in a little. I was nervous to go out there in front of everyone, but I'm not going to make Nick miss breakfast over that. I got up and told Nick to wait on the bed for me while I changed into something more decent in the bathroom.

We walked out of the bedroom and I herd distant chatter of people...a lot of people. I held Nicks hand as we made our way into the dinning room. Tons of people were walking around with plates of food. Some kids ran past us and a lady yelled at them to stop running in the house. After making our way into the room some more, a lot of the people got silent and turned to look at us. I felt super out of place but remembered I had Nick with me.

After a few moments everyone began to talk again and their eyes trailed back to their food. I walked up to the table with all the breakfast items. There was so much food and all kinds of it. I wasn't sure what Nick was allowed to have so I gave him his plate and let him go at it. I grabbed my own plate and skimmed through the items. Tons of meat. Yuck.

I kept my eyes on Nick and helped him put things on his plate. I got some fruit, one pancake and a spoon full of scrambled eggs. We made our way over to a table with less people at it and sat down. Nick sat right beside me and I finally looked at his plate. He had three pancakes, bacon, eggs, strawberries, a random piece of bread and some fruit loops. Maybe I should have watched him closer.
