"Hey! It's Jo," I said once Luke answered his phone. Why was I so nervous?

"Oh hey! What's up?"Luke said from the other end. I walked down the street, an iced coffee rattling in my hand as I held it by my side.

"I was just wondering if maybe you'd like to get dinner?" I asked. I was trying to be hopeful. I didn't want to kill him.

"Are you asking me on a date?" He chuckled.

"Uhhh, yes?" I said but it came out in more of a question.

"I'd love to get to know you better," he spoke softly. "So, yes."

"Great, um, when is a good day for you?" I asked him. I brought my coffee up and took a sip from the straw. I really needed to chill on the coffee drinking.

"I'm free tonight," he told me. I thought to myself about if I really wanted to do this. I guess I didn't actually have a choice.

"Um, sure! That's good," I sighed as I stopped at the crosswalk, my brown hair blowing in the wind. "What time works?"

"How about I pick you up at six?" He said after a second of silence. His voice was warm and deep, but soothing. I could listen to him talk all day.

"Sounds good," I smiled to myself. "It's a casual date. Don't dress up."

I walked down the bustling street, my stomach turning at the thought of seeing him again. He made me nervous and I wasn't sure why. Maybe because he was the first guy I had been with in two years.

I had hung up the phone right before I arrived at my apartment building. I fumbled with my denim jacket, trying to get my key out of my pocket. Once I did, I finally got in and walked to my room, thinking of what I should wear.

I finally decided on a a black crop top I had along with some high waisted black jeans. Of course I paired it with my denim jacket I was always wearing. I felt like it spoke volumes about my personality. That, along with my two French braids I always had my hair in.

I laced my black Vans up and stood off of the bed, giving myself one last look in the mirror. I sighed in contentment and grabbed my crossbody bag.

I wondered why I even cared what I looked like. It's not like I would be dating this guy for real. This was all fake.

Six o'clock came around soon enough and there was a knock on my door. I opened it, staring at the beautiful blonde haired man I had been expecting.

His blue eyes were radiant, complimented by the white button up he had on that was partially tucked into his black jeans. I told him it was casual and he still looked dressed up. Maybe he's just a classy guy.

"Hi," he smiled at me, his dimples prominent. "You ready to go?"

"Yes," I said to him, grabbing my keys from the table beside the entrance. Once we stepped out, I locked the door and put the keys in my bag.

"So, I say we should just go get dinner and talk. Then maybe we can go to the beach," He suggested as we walked down the stairs to get into his car. "Sound good?"

"Sounds perfect, actually," I told him. We arrived at his car which was a black Range Rover. I was impressed even though it was an older model. He  opened the door for me and I thanked him. He walked to the driver's side and got in, having to duck because of his intimidating height.

"What kind of music do you listen to?" He asked me. I thought for a second. I honestly liked everything.

"You can listen to what you want," I smiled at him, placing my hands in my lap.

"Oh, come on, now," he chuckled, pulling out of my apartment complex. "What do you listen to when you're dancing around your apartment?"

"Alternative mainly," I said, answering his question.

"Oh! I have some pretty good CDs if you want to put one in," he told me. "They're in a big case underneath your seat."

"CDs?" I chuckled. There are so many other ways to listen to music. Easier ways.

"Yeah, I like having them," he looked over for a split second and gave me a smile that was surely sculpted by the gods.

"Alright, let's see what you got," I said, reaching down and pulling out the case.

After a short drive filled with good music, and a dinner that was nothing short of amazing, Luke and I were now walking on the beach. The sky was beautiful.

"Hey, look," he turned to me as we walked down the shoreline. His hands were in his pockets, something I had noticed he done a lot. "I don't want you to think I'm the kind of guy that just fucks girls all the time."

"Well, I don't want you to think I'm that kind of girl," I said, pulling my jacket together.

"I don't think you are," he smiled. "I just really felt like we connected last night and that's the only reason I went home with you. Uh, not that I wouldn't have anyways because you're super pretty but I'm-"

"No, I get it," I shook my head, looking up at him. "I wouldn't have went home with a random stranger if he would've been anyone but you."

"That makes me feel so much better," he laughed at me. "Seriously, though. I think you're just amazing. I would love to get to know you better."

"I'd like that too," I blushed, looking down at my feet. A million thoughts ran through my head but there was one in particular.

How the fuck did a guy like him run an entire drug cartel?
