"The name is Luke Hemmings. Leader of the Crimson gang in south Miami," I walked down the street with a coffee in my hand and one earbud in.
"You sure you can handle this, child?" My dad's voice boomed in my right ear. I chuckled.
"Yes, dad," I took a sip of my coffee. "Haven't missed a shot yet."
"That's my girl," He said. "But Abel told me you were rather mouthy today. What was that about?"
"Just doing business," I said, looking through my sunglasses at the many people walking beside and in front of me.
"I understand," he laughed at me. "You get that attitude from your mom."
"She'd be so proud of me," I joked. "But dad, I thought you said we only work for good guys. Abel is in a gang."
"Abel is a good guy, Jo," My dad sighed. I rolled my eyes. How good could a guy in a gang be? "Maybe not to the public eye but he reached out and helped after the situation with your mom."
"I understand," I said, continuing to walk down the bustling sidewalk. "Do you know anything about this Hemmings guy?"
"I know of his father, but I'm not in with these type of people anymore," He told me. I rolled my eyes again. "When are you supposed to have the job done?"
"June tenth," I replied as I arrived at my apartment building. "Plenty of time to study him and his habits."
"He's dangerous, Jo," My dad said. I unlocked my door and walked in. I was able to live here at the expense of killing people. And I was okay with it. "Please be careful."
"I'm dangerous, dad," I told him, sitting my keys and coffee on the table by the door. "He's the one being killed."
"I know you'll do fine," He sighed. "I just get nervous before every job you do."
"I know, trust me," I put the phone between my shoulder and cheek as I opened the fridge. "Okay dad, I'm gonna go do normal teenage girl stuff now."
"Okay, sweetie," he said. I was not a sweetie. "Have fun with Kellen."
"I will, love you," I said to him before hanging up.
I immediately dialed my best friend Kellen's number. She had no idea that I do what I do. She thought all the trips I had taken her on and all the things I bought were with my dad's money. I could never let her find out.
"Hey, bitch," she answered the phone. I smiled.
"Hi," I replied. "I'm bored."
"Okay, I'll be there in ten," She said. "Or do you want me to pick up dinner?"
"I still have pizza from last night if you want to do that," I suggested.
"Let's just do Postmates," she said after a second of silence.
"Okay, yeah," I laughed. "See you soon."
I hung up the phone and started straightening up a bit before she got here. But she soon was, walking in like it was her own house.
"I just stopped and got us Chinese," she said, holding up two bags. "It's gonna be a mukbang."
"How did you stop and get it so quickly?" I laughed at her.
"Okay, don't worry about it. Here's yours," She said, taking a plastic box out of the bag and handing it to me. "Forks should be in the bag."
"Thank you," I smiled at her, reaching in the bag and grabbing both forks, placing one on the table for her and keeping one for myself.
"You have drinks, right?" She asked, walking to the fridge.
"Yeah, grab me a Dr. Pepper," I told her. She did so and handed it to me.
We gathered our food, walking into my living room and sitting on the couch. I sat my food in my lap and grabbed the remote.
"What do you want to watch?" I asked her.
"We need to finish Shameless," She said, taking a bite of her food. "We're like five episodes behind."
"Ooh, true," I clicked on my recordings and scrolled until I seen Shameless. I clicked on it and found the episode we were on.
After eating all of our food and watching two episodes of Shameless, we decided to have some wine. I know, we're nineteen and should be drinking the cheap, shitty liquor but we were old souls who had a niche for a cold glass of Pinot Grigio.
"I'm stuffed from Chinese, I'm watching my favorite show, I'm wine drunk, and I got my best girl with me," Kellen smiled drunkenly at me. I rolled my eyes playfully. "The only thing that would make this better is a cheese platter."
"I swear, as much as you drink, you get so shitty so fast," I laughed at her. "One glass of wine and you're fucked."
"Hey, all that means is that I start having fun earlier than others," She shrugged. "Sorry it takes you four hours and 3 bottles of Mad Dog to get you drunk."
"Wow, you know me so well," I gasped sarcastically.
"You know what you need, Jo?" She asked me, slurring every word. We were only half a bottle in.
"What do I need?" I laughed at her.
"Dick," She hiccuped. "You know? Just some good dick."
"I'm too busy for good dick, Kell," I continued laughing.
"No one is ever too busy for bomb ass dick, okay? So get that the fuck out of your head," She pointed at me while taking another sip from her glass.
"Are you getting good dick? When do you have time to fuck?" I questioned her. "You're a full time college student."
"You just answered your own question, dumbass," she giggled. "I'm a student which means I get the best dick."
"I think you need to go to bed," I couldn't stop laughing at her.
"Will you come cuddle meeee?" She drew out. "I love you."
"Yes," I said. "You drunk whore."
"You're so sweet to me," she smiled.
"Yeah, I sure am," I chuckled before grabbing her hand and taking her into my bedroom.
Kellen only had two states of drinking: completely sober or absolutely plastered. There was no tipsy or buzzed. If she was drinking, she was drunk.
Once I laid her in my bed, I walked to my bathroom to take my makeup off and my contacts out. I threw my hair up into a bun and changed into pajamas.
I couldn't help but think about tomorrow's plan. Tomorrow, I start my job on Luke Hemmings. I always got excited when I closed on a new job.
But I was really excited for this one. I knew it would make my dad proud and that's all I wanted.
