Christmas was gone, school was back and Y/N and Morgan had never been so far apart. Well, technically they were still in the same school, one teaching while the other one learned. But emotionally, Y/n had never felt this disconnected from her daughter. Morgan had stopped talking to her, sure, there were small words here and there but Morgan never told her the big stuff anymore. So much so, that they no longer had their weekly dinners alone. Instead, they were always in the great hall with everyone else.
Despite all of this, Y/N still tried to keep a close eye on her daughter. Apparently it wasn't close enough. As once day, word got around that Sirius had been spotted in the Gryffindor common room, standing above a sleeping Ron with a knife in his hand. Y/n felt horrible and rotten for even thinking it but she was glad it was Ron and not Morgan or Harry.
Soon enough, she found herself pulling Harry aside once again. "Hey Harry, I just wanted to ta-"
"What are you hiding?" Harry asked, interrupting her.
"W-What?" She scolded herself for stuttering, a sure sign she was nervous.
"I know that there's something you're not telling me."
"Harry.." She trailed off, trying to think of what to say. "I was just going to ask if you know what's going on with Morgan."
Harry seemed taken aback and Y/N could understand why. She was going to warn him about Sirius once again but she was scared that if she said anymore then he'd piece everything together. "Oh. No, I don't, sorry."
He then took of, leaving Y/n to think about what she'd been saying and what she was hiding. This wasn't something small, it was something huge and it involved not only herself, but Harry and Morgan too. Perhaps they deserved to know.
It had all started in 1974, Y/N was only 14 years old and in her 4th year of Hogwarts. She'd been working for a long time on mastering the skills required to become an Animagus and she'd finally done it, or she thought she did.
Taking one last look around at the empty grounds, she took a deep breath, closed her eyes and transformed. She had yet to find out what animal she would be, but she knew it would reflect her true personality, so she prayed she wouldn't be something gross like a rat.
When she finally mustered the courage to open her eyes again, she was much lower to the ground and standing on all fours.
"What's going on?" She said, yet all she heard was a few meows.
Realising what had happened, she was over the moon, not only had the spell worked but she was one of her favourite animals of all time. A cat.
Before she had time to consider what this meant, someone rounded the corned. She went to hide but then remembered that she was a cat, not a witch and the chances of the person paying any attention to her was small.
So, she stayed and watched as the mysterious figure approached. They had shoulder length, curly black hair and grey eyes. She recognised them immediately, it was her brothers best friend, Sirius Black. She didn't like the people in her own grade and even struggled to get along with them, so she hung out with her brothers gang more often than not. During her years here, she, like many of the girls at Hogwarts, developed a massive crush on the bad-boy. Yet, he didn't even seem to notice her, always bouncing from girl to girl, breaking hearts and never thinking twice about it.
She meowed again, hoping to catch his attention. It worked, as he slowed his pace and looked down at her. "Aww, a kitten." He then leaned down and picked her up in his hands, cradling her to his chest. "I haven't seen you before, who's your owner?"
"No one is." Yet all she did was meow again.
He spared her a bright smile before making his way back to the castle. Once he was inside, he headed straight to the Gryffindor common room and made his way past the fat lady. Sitting, as if waiting for them, was James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew.
