Ndumiso pushed me behind him and fired shots at Menzi. He went down to the floor and Nokwanda screamed. More guys pointed guns towards us while few pointed theirs to Menzi who was on the floor. Ndumiso pointed his at Nokwanda.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Ndumiso asked looking at the men pointing their guns to us. Nokwanda placed her hands on her head and said nothing.
"I'm sure you know they know I'm here. One click and ...," he continued swinging his gun on his finger. "You're good as dead," he said and looked at her straight in the eye.
"You wouldn't dare!" she said in defence.
"Try me," he said moving closer to her with me still behind him.
"What about Sthabile? Your business? She can't lose both her parents," she begged.
"What business? The one you gave away?" he asked. Nokwanda looked at him with her eyes wide open. "And the last time I checked my right hand-man had got it all covered. The same way he has your pathetic excuse of a family covered. You can run to him now. Take his daughter with,'' he said breathing heavily. Nokwanda looked even more stunned. She tried hiding it but couldn't.
"Wha- what do you mean? How did you find all that out?" she had asked.
"I don't think that's important," he responded.
"You and your bitch won't last. You'll return to me, like you've always been!" she said now screaming.
"Oh yes I will. To kill you, that is," he said getting hold of my hand. I looked at Nokwanda with disgust. Why did she do all that? Convincing Ndumiso that he had a daughter when he didn't. "The ball is in your caught Nokwanda," he continued. She scratched her head a bit. After what seemed like forever she told her guys to let go.
"This is not over!" she shouted at Ndumiso as we walked out. I wailed. He embraced me in his arms and brushed my back. I felt a sense of belonging in his arms. I took a deep breath and looked at him one more time. He wiped my tears with a smile and hugged me again.
"Ouch," I cried when he tightened the hug. "Are you okay?" he asked. I flinched and nodded.
His men escorted us from the basement to the parking lot. He then took of his blazer and placed it on my shoulders. We stopped walking and he cupped my face and looked straight into my eyes. I managed to throw a genuine smile back. He kissed my forehead and picked me up. We made our way to his car and he drove off.
I woke up and I felt arms around my waist. I shook them off so hard that I ended up falling. I exhaled when I saw Ndumiso walking towards me.
"Are you okay?" he asked offering his hand to me. I held on it, he helped me up and we stood close to each other. His warm breath on my skin froze my mind for a bit. He leaned closer to me and I let him. When I slightly opened my mouth ready to have a feel of his lips, he moved back.
"Er .... Uhm. I have to go," he said rushing to the door.
"Ndumiso," I said with a low voice. He quickly turned and looked at me.
"Why didn't you kill them?" I asked concerned. If they managed to kidnap me from my husband's house what would stop them from kidnapping me now, or anywhere else for that matters? He stood by the door and sighed.
"Do you want them dead?" he finally asked. I wanted to say yes, with every fibre of my being. I wanted to scream on top of my lungs but I didn't.
"Enhle?" he called out. I looked at him. "Do you want them dead?" he asked again.
