Hey guys,
Normally, I wouldn't do this on this particular story. Donkeyskin is my favorite of all my works, so I would usually leave random, non-chapters to my other books, but I actually have a couple of big announcements, some of which really effect this story in particular.
First, I am actually looking to publish the book in the next year, hopefully. I did originally plan on finishing it this summer, but I'm having some trouble concentrating on it. I think, because I know exactly how the rest of the story pans out, my subconscious thinks it's finished, so I just can't bring myself to actually sit down and write it. I know, it's crazy, and maybe I'm crazy, but I'm just severely lacking motivation and drive, so just nag me a little, and maybe I'll actually get around to it someday. (That was meant to be a little bit of a joke, but I'm not really good at being funny).
Second, also regarding this story, I have started writing its sequel, which is going to be a Cinderella retelling (I know, how original, she said sarcastically). It will feature Mattie's brother, whose name I keep changing, but right now I think it's Elijah. I'm leaning towards Ethan, though, and if anyone who reads this could just chime off on which one they prefer, I would be eternally grateful.
Third, and last, completely unrelated, I did decide to do Camp NaNoWriMo this summer, for the first time. We'll see if I actually complete it (fingers crossed), but I have published the first chapter on Wattpad! Yay!
It's called Starship: Rogue, and it's about as different from this book as you can get, but I've fallen head over heels for the characters, and for it. It's SciFi, and I've been describing it as Stark Trek meets Pacific Rim meets pretty much any crime show ever, and I'm actually really proud of it. So please check it out, and if it's not your thing, then so be it.
Anyway, please check it out. It would mean so much to me. Also, I swear, I'll get back to Donkeyskin soon. Also, I got a new job! I'm working for this amazing theatre company that performs short stories literally as they're written, and it's so exciting! I just thought I'd mention it because it has to do with books. The short stories we're performing are Deep Kiss by Tobias Wolff and Victory Lap by George Saunders, and they're really good, so if you haven't read them, I highly recommend both.
So that's a writing-related update for you. Thank you and until we meet again! (Again, trying to be funny. Is it working?
