Chapter 15

Gale's P.O.V

I watched my dad, Liam, Niall, Zayn, Louis, and Harry help carry my brother's coffin all biting their lips trying to hold back the tears. They set it down in front of everyone, and sat beside me. So this is it, my brother is finally going to be put to rest.

The preacher spoke about how Jason was a good man, and how he will be missed. I really didn't pay attention to his words, I just stared at the coffin.

"Would anyone like to speak," the preacher asked.

I held my breath, and stood up. All eyes were on me as I walked up to the podium. I stood there quietly, and I looked at Liam.

"Just look at me," he mouthed.

I nodded my head, and locked eyes with him and began to speak.

"Jason was my rock," I started." He was always here for me when no one else was. He listened to me when no one else did. He reminded me that I wasn't alone. I realized that he just didn't just do that for me, but he did it for everyone he has ever met. He wouldn't brush them off as if they were nothing, and for that a lot of people cared about him."

I paused, and Liam nodded for me to go on.

"H- He always said he'd take a bullet for me," my voice cracked. "And I never imagined a day would come where he actually did. Where I thought my life was going to be over, and then just to find his ended and not mine." I felt the tears stream down my face.

"I remember when we were little he'd say,' I want to be a hero, I want to be just like Superman!'Well, Jason, you are my hero. You were always my superman," I said now looking at the sky."And Jason, I hope you are listening to this because I never got to say thank you. I never got to explain how much I love you. And I wish I could just take back all the mean stuff I've ever said to you, bu- but I can't. I can't turn back time. I can't bring you back, and it hurts.

It hurts knowing that I can never walk into the living room finding you watching Spongebob. I hurts knowing that I can't hear your laugh when I say something stupid. It hurts knowing that I can't just curl up in your bed and just talk to you about anything. But the thing is, Jason, you never wanted anyone to cry because of you," I said as I wiped away my tears, and I made eye contact with everyone here ."Jason doesn't want us crying, he wants us to remember the good times not the bad. So please stop your crying, and just start remembering all the good he's done, all the laughs he's given us." I looked up at the sky again." So Jason this isn't a goodbye, it's a see you later. I love you, I miss you, and even though it hurts I know the pain will get better.  Thank you for being my Superman."

I walked back to my seat, and saw that all the tears were dried. The preacher said the last prayer, and I watched my brother's coffin get buried. My dad hugged me the whole time. About an hour later I had said my goodbyes to everyone.

Liam took my hand and kissed me.

"You're speach was amazing,"he whispered in my ear.

"He'd want me to be happy, and it starts right here." I said pointing to Liam.

He gave me a small smile and kissed me. Liam's my new beginning.

Liam's P.O.V

(One Year Later) 

"Everyone she's coming!" I said, and everyone got into their hiding spots as I turned off the lights.

"Hello, anyone here?" We heard as the front door opened.

The lights flickered on, and we all jumped out yelling,"Surprise!"

Gale stummbled back, and began to laugh.

"You guys almost gave me a heart attack!" She smiled.

"Happy 18th birthday, love," I said as I kissed her.

She smiled and hugged everyone hello.

"Now I wonder who picked out the decorations," she laughed as she looked at the carrot balloons.

"I did!" Louis said happily kissing Gale on the cheek.

"I knew it."

We all laughed and made our way to the kitchen. We sang her happy birthday, and Harry pushed her face into the cake.

"HARRY!" She shrieked in laughter.

"I couldn't help it! My hand slipped!" He laughed.

"Well now we have to eat Gale's face cake," Zayn moaned.

"Hey cake is cake no matter what shape it's in," Niall said picking up a chunck of cake with his hand.

"Niall, manners!" Micaela laughed.

"I don't have any when it comes to food!"

"GALE OPEN HARRY, NIALL, ZAYN, AND MY PRESENT FIRST!"Louis basically screamed like a five year old.

"ALright, alright. Your present first." She said as she unwrapped his gift.

"Aw you guys shouldn't have," she gasped as she looked at a locket.

"Well open it," Harry smiled.

She did and it showed a picture of all of us.

"Like it," Zayn asked.

"I love it," she said and she hugged the boys.

After she got done opening everyone's presents it was my turn.

"Well looks like you're last, Liam." Her dad smiled.

"Yeah," I smiled as I handed her a letter.

"Read it out loud," Harry said.

"Alright... Here's what Liam's letter says: Gale, it's hard to imagine that just over a year ago we couldn't admit our feelings about one another. It's hard to believe that I could've ever loved someone this much. It honestly feels like I am dreaming. Now we've been through a lot this past year, and you always thought that the more and more I'd find out about you the more you'd think I wouldn't love you. All it did was make me love you more. Each day I wake up with a smile on my face because I know that I have you, and that my feelings aren't a dream it's actual real. I don't even want to sleep anymore because reality is finally better than my dreams. I want to wake up beside you each morning and just tell you how beautiful you are. Now Gale stop reading the letter and look at me." She stopped and looked at me.

"Liam, what are you doing," she asked as I got down on one knee.

"Gale, I- I want to spend the rest of my life with you," I said trying to hold back tears. " I love you with all my heart, and I want to wake up beside you every morning just knowing that you'll be there with me. Gale Marie Montgomery, will you do me this honor and marry me?"

"You're so formal Liam, and yes I will marry you," she cried as I placed the ring on her finger.

I picked her up and just cried. Everyone was clapping and cheering.

"I love you Liam Payne," she whispered in my ear.

"And I love you Gale Montgomery," I whispered back. Soon she'll be Gale Payne... I smiled at the thought.

I love her so much.
