Clarissa hated it all

Clarissa hated it all. She hated all the love all the mushy gushy crap, the people all finding love she hated it. She had a mark sure, but she never touched any boys, she wore plastic gloves and a face mask and sat alone. She didn't want love, or a stupid soulmate because boys were dumb. A girl in her class named Ashley had asked for a pencil from a boy and poof suddenly they were destined to be together. High school was hard enough as it is without finding your one true love, ugh. All the other kids looked at her with pity and maybe a little disgust. Because who didn't want love, right? Clarissa had seen love die slowly and painfully. When Clarissa's mother and father told her about soulmates she was so excited to meet her Prince Charming. She saw a handsome boy with a cute smile. But when she was six her parents started to fight. Dad came home late, he beat mom and mom would sleep with the neighbor. This went on for seven years. Clarissa's dad drove home drunk one night and took an unexpected dive off the bridge and her mom had never been the same since. Clarissa and her older brother Max watched love die and both swore they would never let that happen to them. But when max was 18 he brushed hands with a girl named Darcy and now they have three kids and live far away. Clarissa was left to remember it all on her own. Everyone had their own mark, her moms were on her shoulder blade, her fathers was on his hand and Max's was on his thumb. Clarissa's was on her cheek, hidden by a surgical mask she constantly wore. One morning Clarissa went to put on her mask but was astonished to find it was gone,  no mask it was a nightmare. She could feel herself panic, she couldn't do this she couldn't. She stuck her hands in her pockets and ran out of her house to stormy outside, she hopped in her car and and started it up hoping and praying no one would bother to talk to her or even look at her because now they could all see that ugly black mark that labeled her "open for business". By the time she made it to school everyone was in class. She rushed into her third hour avoiding all the eye contact but she could feel all the students looking at that specific spot right there on her left cheek. The teacher kept talking but she could still feel the stares and the whispers, the handprint on her face felt like a beacon everyone could see. The bell rang and she practically ran to her next class in hopes maybe if she were there first no one would stare, but they all did all day. The last period finally arrived, PE was her least favorite but she was so excited for it, no one tried to touch her today and she was starting to think being the "weird kid" was worth it. All the girls and boys were sectioned off for different activities, boys did basketball and girls did volleyball, how dumb Clarissa thought, what if I wanted to play mother fucking basketball, I will pla- her thought was stopped short as a small girl fell on top of her knocking them both down, her hand hit clarissas face with a smack. Clarissa opens her eyes to see the girls hand change to a million colors, and the girl was probably the cutest being Clarissa had ever seen.
