Carley Floyd in the image.

*******

I was about to head downstairs to meet Hernandez so we could go to lunch when my office phone beeped. I picked it up, pressing the receiver to my ear.

"Sorry to interrupt you Mr. Floyd, Mrs. Floyd and the kids are here to see you. Should I bring them in?"

What were they doing here?

"Uh, yeah. Bring them in."

As soon as my office door clicked open, the excited chatter rushed past my four year old daughter's lips as she threw herself against my leg, shrieking my name from the top of her lungs. I smiled, squatting down to hug her against me. I placed a kiss on her head.

"How's Ne-ma and pap?" I pinched her cheeks, running my eyes across her round face. Everyone said she didn't favor me one bit and that was fairly true. When I looked at her I only saw her mother. She was just as beautiful, but mini size with lighter hair pulled into pig tails. Two ribbons wrapped around the tails, corresponding with her dress and sandals.

Avery was my pride and joy and there was something so bittersweet about having a daughter. When she was born a new happiness regenerated within me and ever since, her smile was all it took to make me want to be the best father.

"Fun!" She chanted excitedly, "We went to the park and Ne-ma pushed me on the swings. Pap got me a ice cream cone, and new shoes, and a new doll house. Oh! Mehil got a game and mommy got a pretty dress and-" I covered her mouth.

"Okay, okay, hunnie," I shushed. "You have to slow down okay? Daddy can't keep up." I laughed, dropping my hand and lifting her up from the floor. I stood up with her in my arms, pressed against my waist. I turned to my desk chair and sat her in it, knowing that she'd forget all about our previous conversation and start spinning in the chair.

I turned back around to my wife who stood in the middle of the room, her arms folded and a look of disapproval across her face. "If she gets sick, it'll be your fault."

"I may be CEO, but when it comes to my kids I'm TBD." I bragged, snatching the phone out of my Mehil's hands and having his eyes shoot up. "Daaaad," He complained, but I grabbed him in a bear hug.

"And what's that stand for?" Carley tilted her head, raising a brow.

"The Best Dad," I ruffled Mehil's hair, planting a kiss on his forehead before letting him escape. I let him have his phone back and he returned to acting like nothing happened, plopping down into the loveseat while his fingers worked viciously against the phone screen.

Carley tossed her dark hair over her shoulders with a soft laugh before moving closer to me. She wrapped her arms around my waist and leaned further in, her heels giving her the advantage of meeting me eye-to-eye. She went to kiss me on the mouth, but I moved quicker, pecking her on her cheek.

"Not in front of the kids," I murmured, prying her hands away as gently as possible.

She dropped her head against my shoulder with a sigh, "They're our kids. They know that mommy and daddy kiss, Jesus, I just explained to Mehil the process of conceiving."

"You did what?" I furrowed my eyebrows, grabbing her shoulders until she lifted her head to me.

"If 'the best dad' was ever around long enough, he'd know that his son is becoming quite curious," She said bluntly, "Besides, he came to me and asked because apparently his friends are already discussing the anatomy of girls."

"Oh for fucks sake," I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Herald!" Avery and Carley said in unison and I glanced back at my daughter with a sympathetic smile, "Sorry hunnie, it slipped." I reached into my pocket pulling out a dollar and handing it to her. I once told her that if I ever said a bad word she had the permission to call me by my first name and she would also receive a dollar. So far I'm sure she has about fifty dollars saved up.
