It almost seemed like things had gone back to the way they were. I hadn't heard from July in two weeks. I kept to my word and contacted Bradley, one of the company recruiters, and candidly recommended Julio Cortez. I stuck to the end of my deal. Now, it was all on July.
It was clear as day to see that Hernandez was happy to stall July's previous talk about moving to California. I don't know how far or deep the conflict between the two of them goes, but I'm guessing it's just a typical family issue.
Herenandez appreciated my recommendation nonetheless and promised to treat us all to dinner once July got the intern.
He was so sure of his nephew. There wasn't a doubt in his wrinkled smile and it made me question July's ambition. In what way could he possibly contribute to Arizona Springs?
He was just a part time waiter in a restaurant. Besides having a degree that he hasn't put into use, I was eager to see what he could do. I guess you can say although I'm trying to stay wary of him, he still perks my interest.
Truthfully, I have no idea who July is and what he's about. I only know of the side he has shown me. He's vibrant and sensual. He speaks his mind and often traps you into a conversation with a topic that no one else has the balls to bring up. He presents himself in a way that no one has ever presented themselves to me. He's blunt with his words and he unlocks thoughts that I keep tucked. It's sort of relaxing to be around him. Yet it's always exhilarating because his character is so unpredictable, or at least that's one of his characteristics.
I can't lie and say that he is in no way or fashion, attractive to me. He is far more than attractive to me; He's a mystery.
Thinking back to that night at Atmosphere, the guy th'at we ran into-I can't really remember his name-I wonder who he was? For once, July revealed a side to me that I wasn't familiar with. Instead of the cunning guy who flirted with me openly just minutes before that guy arrived, he became someone else. I don't know his past relationship with guys, but by his body language I could tell that one particular guy wasn't someone he was affiliated with anymore.
Hell, I don't know his past at all. It's funny, since I seem to be the open book to July. To me, he's a blank sheet with a few words scribbled in bold print. Which is not much to read or understand. Just enough to keep you coming back.
"Mommy! Daddy! Did you see me?" Avery broke away from her dance teacher as soon as she saw us break through the crowd of parents looking for their kids. Carley swooped her up in her arms and smothered her in kisses.
"You're a star, sweetie!" Carley tickled her, "How could we not see you? You shine so bright!"
Avery giggled happily before Carley handed her to me. "You did great, hi-five." I smiled, proud of her. She gave me a hi-five with her tiny hands before I put her down.
"How about we go meet Lyon and her parents for frozen yogurt?" I asked, gripping her hand in mine and turning to walk the opposite direction, but her she pulled back gently.
"I want to give Miss Donna and Rosie a hug first." Avery's eyes brightened with admiration for her dance teacher and this Rosie that we hadn't really met.
"Sweetie, they must be busy with so many parents around. You'll see them next Monday when your lesson starts again." Carley tried to talk her out of it.
