Had she been asked that before, she probably wouldn't have remembered. But ever since his death it's like all these little memories she thought she'd never remember again wanted to crawl back to her mind all at once. It was basically like her whole life had flashed before her eyes. When she was asked how she met the guy, the memory played out in her head so vividly.
She had been in town for her grandmas funeral. As sad as she was, she felt the need to explore her neighbourhood, somewhat of an insight on where her grandmother lived, because of no matter how much she'd visited, she's never actually walked around or got to know the place a little better. Staying in her grandmas was making her feel a little more overwhelmed, also.
Her grandparents had lived up a hill, she decided that she'd walk down a little trail. On that walk she discovered a treehouse. She stood outside, trying to listen if anyone was in, and with what she thought, no one was there.
At the time she didn't think twice if it was special to anyone, or if the person who claimed this treehouse would be mad. After all, she didn't have any intentions of stealing anything, she was simply curious.
Once she got in she was amazed by it. Despite the three treehouses she's ever been in, they weren't as good as this. It looked as if someone spent the majority of their time there. There were seats, a deck of cards, a radio, smokes, magazines and a bunch of other junk. It didn't look like a good living condition to her, but the tree house was just cool to her twelve year old mind.
When she suspected someone would be back soon, that's when she decided to leave. She was scared of whoever she might have ran into.
On the other hand, two boys were currently walking up the hill. She was climbing down the ladder completely oblivious about them. It was obvious to them she was struggling with her skirt trying to get down. The boys looked at each other confused, then back at the girl when they heard her scream. She fell.
"Heeheehee" a hyena like laugh hollered and one of the boys went running to the girl.
"Serves you right, breaking into our treehouse!" He said to the girl. She looked up to the boy who looked quite frightening, in all honesty to her. She looked at him and he wore big glasses, she couldn't tell what happened to his ear but it looked kinda weird.
"Forgive me, I don't know what I was thinking, sorry." She rambled and tried dusting off her skirt quick. The other boy went to help her up by grabbing her hand.
"It's alright, it's alright, we all get curious sometimes." He smiled, trying to reassure the girl. "Don't mind my friend, he's a little crazy.." he tried whispered in her ear.
"Hey, screw you, Chambers." The boy with specs said, while Chambers just rolled his eyes.
"Sorry, I was just leaving." She said in desperate attempt to get out of the situation she just got herself in.
"Wait, I didn't catch your name?" The boy in the white t-shirt asked her.
"Ella Fontaine." She told them.
"Ella Fontaine.." He muttered more likely to hisself. "My names Chris." He put his hand out for her to shake.
She ignored it and just gave him a smile. Right then, when she smiled he knew he had to get to know her.
"Bye, Chris." She waved, still holding that sweet smile.
"Ouch.." Teddy said and put his hand on Chris' shoulder as he watched her get farther. She giggled as she walked away, hearing Teddy.
"Can I see you again?" Chris called out. Yet again, she just waved and smiled.
She had no intention of being rude, she just didn't think she wanted to get to know anyone here since she'd be leaving.
"Do you know her?" Chris asked his friend, still trying to get a glimpse of the girl despite the far distance she already was.
"Never seen her a day in my life." He said and began climbing up the tree house.
That summer, Chris was hoping to see the girl again, but like a ghost, she disappeared with out a trace. He had always hoped to see her again, often catching hisself walking around in the neighbourhood up the hill where they had put their treehouse, since it was the direction she walked in when she left. It was no luck, eventually he gave up and figured she had just stopped by with her parents or something and wandered off for a bit. Although he never knew Ella, he couldn't help but be so curious about her.
He often wondered how things would have went if he convinced her to stay a little longer, also often wondered why he still wondered about a girl he never knew.. but I guess curiosity just gets the best of us sometimes.
