LauraCasualty1996 correctly realised that the prison in this story is based on one from Australian TV drama 'Wentworth'. The show is beyond amazing and I strongly recommend that you watch it (if you watch the first episode I promise, you will be hooked!). You will see many similarities between the show and the prison scenes in this story, as I have no other way of knowing what a prison is like, but I promise you that the whole story isn't all like this! Hope you enjoy x
"Jacob," Connie breathed, seeing her partner for the first time since she was arrested, and she ran up to him instantly, wrapping her arms around him. They had twenty minutes until Jacob had to leave, and Connie couldn't think of anything to say.
"Oh Connie, I've missed you so much," he answered, and she could tell that something was wrong. "Am I allowed to kiss you?" He asked, when she called him up on what was bothering him. She just grinned deviously before standing up and moving towards him.
"Let them try to stop me," she growled seductively before placing her fingers on his cheeks and gripping his head tightly, descending her mouth to his before crashing them together, passionately locking in a tight embrace. His tongue ventured inside her mouth and she returned the kiss equally as forcefully, toying with him and teasing him even after all this time. During their long, feisty kiss, they were broken apart by one of the officers - Mister Brown - who called over for them to take their seats now. Connie obliged, giggling with Jacob, as the two of them sat opposite one another.
"So how are you?" Connie asked, and Jacob nodded."Yeah, yeah I'm good. Just wish you were here to help me through it all. You'd keep our little family together," he said, and she looked at him in mild panic.
"Is Grace causing you problems? Baby, you didn't sign up to be a full time father figure to someone else's kid when you got in a relationship with me." Connie's heart was breaking. The last thing she wanted was for Grace to live with another family member, because then she'd struggle to get her relationship with Jacob back on track at all. Connie and Jacob had been together just short of a year, and she knew that this wasn't his responsibility.
"No, no, Grace isn't causing the problems. She's talking to me, opening up to me. I just can't look at her without thinking about you, and thinking that if she hadn't have mentioned in the first place that you were out of the house at the time of the murder, then you wouldn't even be in this place. I know it's wrong to blame Gracie for this, but I just miss you Connie." Connie inhaled deeply - there was no point her trying to explain to Jacob that he shouldn't be blaming Grace because he already knew that. He just didn't know how to stop. Connie reached across the table and held Jacob's hand, and from the corner of her eye, Connie saw Ms Atkinson send a message through her radio.
"Jacob, it will get easier for you." Connie told him, caressing his knuckles, and he nodded, bringing her hand to his mouth and kissing it softly. "How is Grace?" Connie had wanted to see her baby girl more than anything, but she didn't agree that prison was a place for children - she didn't want Grace coming in and having to see her mother like this, and so they had to make do with phone calls. Connie phoned everyday without fail, and Grace enjoyed talking to her. Connie had family photos up in her cell - ones of Jacob, ones of Grace, and ones of all of them together - and they made her feel a little better.
"Grace is doing well. She just had some tests at school, for putting her into sets or something for the upcoming year. The teachers said that given the circumstances, they could arrange for her to take them at a later date, but she said that she wanted to do them at the same time as the rest of the class, and she completely aced it. Here, she asked me to give you a copy of her end of year report," Jacob reached into his bag and pulled out the document. He knew that the officers around would search him later, but he didn't really mind, as he had nothing to hide. As Connie read over it, her eyes began to fill up with tears. Her daughter had done so well, and Connie couldn't be prouder. Inside it was also a card - a handmade card from Grace. She had drawn a beautiful picture on the front, of the three of them down at the beach, and inside she had written the sweetest verse:
