*Connor's POV*
I scanned through the database over and over. Trying to find any connection to Fredrick. Nothing was standing out. I slammed my fist down on the table, startling Hank.
" Why the hell would they take her?" I huffed, frustrated.
Hank sighed, shaking his head. He was sorting through a stack of papers. He was having just as much luck as I was in finding a connection. We both knew there had to be something we were missing. But what was it?
Hank pushed the papers to the side and rubbed his temples. " Maybe we need to backtrack." I looked to Hank, hanging on his every word. " Maybe there's alot more to this then we know. I need to make a few phone calls." Hank stood up and left the office, leaving me alone.
Hank had told me to go back through all the cases linking Brent Kalicov. He was the head distributer over the whole red ice industry in Detroit. Nothing went in or out of the city without him knowing about it. He was like the drug lord of the city. The most recent case against him was closed due to lack of witness. I opened the case file and read through the nitty gritty details. Kalicov was accused of money laundering, the only witness died 2 weeks before the trial. The witnesses name wasn't revealed for security reasons. That's beyond suspicious.
Hank walked into the room and I immediately passed him the file when he sat down.
" Who was assigned this case? I'd like to know the identity of the witness that was killed." Hank flipped through the file then got to his feet.
" I'll ask Captain Fowler. Be right back." Hank said heading towards the captain's office.
It was quite possible the witness was under witness protection services or something of that matter. There's no other explanation as to why their identity would be confidential. I opened the case file on Kalicov's money laundering scam. It seemed like he was laundering money in a law firm downtown. Unfortunately where the witness was deceased there was no solid evidence to prove it. The firm went through an in depth audit and nothing suspicious came up.
Kalicov was an extremely dangerous person. I couldn't bare the thought of him harming (Y/N). We weren't certain he did have her, but he was definitely on our suspect list.
I looked to Captain Fowler's office and found it was empty. Where had Hank and the captain gone? I didn't even see them leave.
" Connor?" I heard someone calling me. I looked away from the captain's office and found one of the officers that aided us in the raid earlier.
" Yes?" I answered politely.
" We finished up clearing out the warehouse. We found one guy still hiding there and brought him in for questioning." He said matter-of-factly.
I nodded, " I'll inform Lieutenant Anderson."
He smiled and turned to leave. He stopped mid step and turned back to face me. " Oh, by the way. It's definitely one of Brent Kalicov's warehouses. We discovered a few crates of red ice in the warehouse. They were hidden under tarps. Looked like it was one of his distribution warehouses."
" Thanks." I said slowly as I watched him walk away. I felt my heart skip a few beats as it sped up. Why would Kalicov want (Y/N)? It didn't make sense.
I got up and made my way to the interrogation room. Lieutenant Anderson was already there.
" How'd it go?" I whispered.
Hank shrugged, " He's got to go into the archives to look. He'll let me know in an hour." I nodded. " Who the fuck is this asshole?" Hank snapped pointing to the man behind the glass.
The interrogation room was a small dark room, with only a single light hanging overhead. It housed a single table that was bolted to the floor, with a chair on either side. The man inside was handcuffed to the table. He was a bigger man, with a bulging stomach and short curly hair. He had a scar across the bottom of his jaw. I scanned him over quickly to get any information I could on him.
" His name is Andrew Decoste. Born April 6, 2004. He has a criminal record for trafficking, possession and multiple assaults." I riddled off the facts quickly, hoping it would help Lieutenant Anderson.
Hank nodded and stood up. " Well, guess I'll interrogate the bastard."
Hank entered the interrogation room, closing the door behind him. He sat down infront of the suspect and crossed his arms. Just as Hank began questioning him the door opens, revealing Detective Reed.
I glared at him, " What are you doing here?"
Gavin scoffed, " I've got just as much right to be here as you do. Plastic Prick." He said the last part under his breath, hoping I wouldn't hear. " I just want to know if (Y/N) is alright." He spoke quietly.
" Why do you care? After what you've done to her." I snapped.
Gavin sighed, " I feel bad, okay? Took that old man in there to beat the shit out of me to realize women aren't dolls." He rubbed his nose instinctively.
I chuckled quietly and looked away from him. I looked back through the two way glass at Lieutenant Anderson and Andrew. He was crippling under Hank's wave of questions. Hank stood up and leaned on the table next to Andrew. He whispered something to him, whatever it was his face turned white with pure horror.
" S-She's at the b-bosses place." He stuttered. " H-Her father st-stole money from him. He.. he wanted his daughter as payment. To clear the debt, but he tried to run."
I couldn't believe what I'd just heard. I turned on my heal and almost ran right into the Captain.
" Hank's brother was the witness that was killed. Guess he already knows." Captain Fowler said exiting the room. " Tell Hank I'll be in my office."
When Hank burst out of the room he stopped infront of me. Before he could speak I told him what the captain had said. He stormed out of the room and towards the captain's office. I was trying to process the information that had just been thrown at me.
" So, he wanted Hank's niece all along? Nothing that happened to her was by coincidence?" Gavin all but whispered.
I turned to Gavin slowly, pure sadness raidanting from my body as I spoke, " Yes."
I left the room and went to my desk, burying my face in my hands. I should have protected her. I should have been there. Why did I leave her...
" Connor?" Hank called me from the captain's office.
I stood up and quickly made my way to him. Once inside Captain Fowler's office I stood behind Hank, waiting for the Captain to speak.
" We've got eyes on Kalicov's hideout. No word on your niece yet, I'm still waiting to hear back. I'm not supposed to do this, but here's the address." The captain slid Hank a folded piece of paper. " Don't make me regret this Hank. Try to get a team and make the arrest. But most importantly, find your niece and bring her home."
Hank held Captain Fowler's arm and nodded at him. He turned and grabbed my arm, pulling me out of the room.
" Come on Connor, let's go find (Y/N)." He said with determination. I've never been so happy to be this man's partner.
