Emily and I decided to eat our lunch outside, due to the fact that practically every single one of Jessica's friends were now occupying and dominating the cafeteria. They chattered along eventually bullying, who ever dared to pass their table. Calling out names and pointing fingers, while their heavy laughter would echo through the school. Unfortunately passing their table would be the most direct way to the rest of the tables in the cafeteria.
While Emily had paid for her vegetarian lunch box, I had watched how a freshman - a young pretty innocent looking girl - became the victim of the day. Maybe I should have thrown that coke can anyway. The young girl had not noticed whom were sitting at that specific table she passed. With the tray of food in her hands and while laughing carefreely over her shoulder to one of her friends, she had not seen the bag standing on the floor either. Jessica's bag. Accidently the innocent soul knocked it over and hell broke loose. Literally.
Jessica’s eyes flew to the bag and a loud gasp escaped her lips, as she pushed to the girl and picked up her most treasured fashion item.
"You totally did that on purpose, you bitch! Don't you see where you are walking, moron? Maybe you should use lenses instead of those granny glasses of yours - please, do you actually believe that your eyes are even pretty enough to be enlarged by ten times? What do you think you are? Could you please just leave, before your face acne will explode all over us? Yeah, move," all attention was drawn at the episode. Jessica was waving her off like was she some fly that annoyed her. Her shrieking voice was heard all over the cafeteria. As the young girl blushed bright red, I sighed and fastened my fist around the can in anger. Jessica was always exaggerating things. That young girl had a decently normal teenager skin, actually it was way better than most of the students' in this room. And her eyes were not enlarged; as it turned out she had some very pretty brown eyes, as far as I could tell. And yet now her shoulders were hanging low and her gaze locked on the ground, as she did exactly what Jessica had ordered her to - move out of her sight.
Once again my theory was confirmed; Jessica had this certain evil kind of gift. Just by looking at a person, she could immediately pick out all of those things, which the person felt least comfortable with. It could be anything; shape, clothes, family tragedies, crushes. Anything. And she would use it against you, bully you in front of everybody with it. Make people laugh. And yet just balance it so she could get away with it. Since most of the 'good looking' people at this school hung out with Jessica, most of these bullying episodes, inclined being picked on in front of your crush. Kind of a nightmare really for everyone who wasn’t good enough for Jessica’s standard.
I had never really understood why no one stood up against that horrible girl. Personally I was always on the very edge of breaking her nose or something, but Emily would always grab a hold of my wrist and hold me back. She knew. She knew me so well that she easily picked up on the fury burning in my chest towards that blonde devil.
"Babe, it was only a bag. I don't think she did it on purpose and," Patrick's voice started casually - everyone heard it as the attention was fully on them. It kind of calmed me that at least someone tried. That was Patrick. He usually stood up for the weakest part. His voice momentarily dull the anger I had towards him these days. It had of course been a big surprise to everybody, when the rumor had it at the beginning of the school year; Jessica and Patrick - a couple. With him being the student president, getting amazingly good grades, treating people equally and not to forget, being the most jaw dropping quarterback the school had had in years. Well, he was practically the exact opposite of Jessica. So why had they ended up together? The only thing they had in common was their popularity. I for one thought the combination was sickening.
If I were to guess, I would say Jessica had been acting. I could just imagine how she would have gained interest in Patrick, as he was chosen to be the new student president at the end of last semester. She had probably been acting all good-girl in the summer vacation, winning him over that way. If there was one thing Jessica was good at - it was acting. Boy did that girl know how to pretend.
