Flashback: 14 Years Ago

You cry loudly from inside the locked closet. From outside you can hear the sound of police sirens and see the flashes of red and blue. The door is opened, and your body is illuminated by a bright yellow light coming from one of the police officer's torches.

"Shit! We got another survivor over here!" The officer yells to his comrades.

You're picked up roughly and lead over to an ambulance by a group of men. Sat down in the back of the vehicle, a paramedic is rushed over to you. The woman examines your body, searching for any wounds that need medical attention, however she finds none. Instead, you're given a thick, heavy blanket to wrap around your shoulders.

As you sit there, you stop crying as your attention is caught by a group of police officers wheeling out two long tables. Curious, you hop off the back of the ambulance and walk over to the crowd, trying to catch a glimpse of what was on the tables. Pushing through the people, you see a figure lying on the table. The person's face is a bruised bloody mass, one of his eyes missing. You wouldn't be able to identify him as your father if it weren't for the large horns. On the second table is your mother, easily recognizable, though unfamiliar looking in death, as her pale skin continues to leek blood from the many cuts on her body, a small trickle of red liquid trailing from the corner of her mouth.

"Mommy! Daddy!" You scream, trying to run forwards. They're not dead, they're just asleep. They have to be. Any second now your mom and dad are going to wake up from the sound of your screams. "Wake up! Please wake up!" You cry, tears falling freely from your eyes.

"Damnit! Get him away from here!" One of the officers yells as another picks you up.

You kick and scream, fighting your hardest to get back to your parents and wake them up, but the man carrying you is too strong. You're eventually placed in the back of a police car. The door slams in your face and you tug at the handle, trying to get it to open, but it's locked. Turning around, you're about to try the other door when you see your 8-year old older brother, Adam, sitting in the seat next to you. He's crying as well and pulls you into a hug.

Driven to the police station, you and your brother are sat down in one of the interrogation rooms. You're barely listening as the police officer explains what happens to you. Your mother and father were the targets of a Faunus related hate crime. Members of a local gang had broken into the house with the sole purpose of beating any Faunus residents. Your parents had managed to keep the two of you safe by hiding you away, but they had lost their lives from the brutal beatings that they received.

12 Years Ago:

You and your brother were fleeing through the mountains of Mistral, having just escaped the foster home you had been placed in following the death of your parents. It seemed like a friendly establishment on the outside, but the owners were cruel and hated the Faunus. After two years of suffering at the hands of the employees, you and your brother had finally managed to escape through a window after having sawed at the bars for several months. Finally stopping after what felt like hours, the two of you knelt at a river bank. Still crying, Adam grabs you by the shoulders to calm you down.

"Hey, don't worry (F/N)." He says. "We're free. We're gone and we're never going back."

Your breaths come in quick, rapid succession as you try to calm yourself. Eventually you manage to slow your breathing to an even pace.

"Hey, we stick together." Adam says, giving you a slight shake. "From now on, it's you and me. We're all we have left. Wherever one of us goes, the other follows."
