Weather

Sometimes I think my emotions coincide with the weather
The rain hitting my face
As I stand here
Out in the open street
Sure feels like an accurate depiction of the weight I carry
And like a tear drop
I'm afraid I might collapse the moment I hit something

I've been like that for awhile
It's fall, after all
It always pours this time of year
And it's like each drop is everyone of my fears
All hitting me at the same time
It's an attack on my nerves
Telling me that I've got the nerve to have a sunny day

Nevermind my mental health
There's chores to be done
So it's best I get off my ass
And try to fight it
It's easy
Because it's a war against myself
Even though it's more like a stalemate
Hot and cold clashing together
Causing a chain of tornadoes as if I lived in Kansas
At least then I could be like Dorothy
And get swept into a magical land
Rather than stand by in the place I'm supposed to call home
And hate everything and everyone around me
Because they don't bother to understand

To be fair, it's not like I say anything
I scream silently in my head
In hopes of getting an answer
But it's much like a phone call from an ex
Best to ignore it than to get tied into another mess
When you're already messy as it is
We're built like a teenager's room
Our trash and clothes and secret interests safely tucked away
We have to clean up when we let them in
Because showing who we truly are
Is nothing but sin

As if sin really matters to us
It's nothing but a concept to instill fear
And prevent from committing the crime of being human
Nevermind my humanity
I have to be a functional producers of goods
Anything less and I'm on the streets
Sitting on my ass
Asking for treats
And just like advice
It's the bare minimum of the generic store brand
It's edible but lacks the substance
Give me something real goddamnit
I want to taste it's sweetness again
