[Madison Fren POV]
The turf crunched beneath my shoes, my pace quickening to match Violet's. We we're headed towards the sidelines of the football field, where I assume we would be sitting. Once we reached our destination, Violet tossed her stuff aside and plopped down, grabbing my arm and pulling me down with her.
"Alright," she giggles under the moons glow. "Perfect view. Now, tell me which one you think is hottest."
My face heats up. "What? Don't you have a boyfriend, Vi?"
"Yeah? And I'm completely faithful to him! I'm just window shopping over here for my best friend." She leaned into me, her shoulder nudging mine.
I shook my head. "I'm not really interested in a relationship right now."
I watched as the four boys juggled the football. They were crashing into each other, leaping around and all in all, just being boys. It wasn't until the ball fumbled towards the sidelines, that Justin noticed Violet and I. The moon's light illuminated his surprised look.
Violet sneezed, and just as I was about to say bless you, she said, "Sorry, I'm allergic to bullshit."
I rolled my eyes, raising my legs to my chest. Wrapping my arms around my knees, I create a perfect resting place for my chin. My eyes follow Grayson as he chases the ball. It looked like they we're doing a 2v2. Chris and Justin against Grayson and Bryce.
When I didn't say anything further, Violet sighs. "Come on, Maddi. I can tell just by the way your lustfully staring out there! Who is it."
I can't even accept the idea that I like Grayson. It just doesn't make sense and it's not possible. It's not fair. He has been with a countless number of girls, why does he deserve another one falling at his feet?
"Uhm,"
"Chris Wells, Justin Pennington or Bryce Akers?" She asks, leaning back, using her arms as support.
I am subconsciously chewing on my bottom lip as I glance towards her.
"What's that look for?" She raises an eyebrow. "I didn't forget Grayson, I left him out purposefully. He's such an ass, and even if he wasn't, no offense Maddi, but he's known to only go for the easy girls."
My imagination grows an invisible hand in which clenches my heart. Ouch.
"And besides," she continues and I wished she would of just stopped there. "I would feel totally betrayed if you by some odd chance in hell, were fond of him. I've had so many 'friends' just use me to get to Grayson, and I know you would never do that to me Maddi, but I just can't stand the thought of it."
Of course I would never do that, but I can't help what happened nor what I feel.
I sigh, "Justin."
"Huh?" Her bubble of sadness pops.
"I think Justin is the cutest one." My lying was improving, no doubt.
She leans forward with the speed of lightning. "Omg, I knew it!"
A smile tugs to my lips, my skin pores taking in her happiness.
"See, best friends really do know everything about each other." She says, and I glance down. There is a moment of silence before I see Violet standing in my peripheral vision.
She holds a hand out to me, "come on, stand."
I don't question her as I take her open palm.
"Okay so, this is how it's gonna work." Her eyes bounce from me, to the boys on the field. "You're going to cheer for Justin, and I'm going to cheer for..." she does a fake gag, "Grayson."
